Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses the prompt by discussing the importance of saving money for young people and the future, presenting a clear overall position that saving is crucial. However, the ideas are limited and under-developed, keeping the task response at this level. While the writer mentions relevant concepts such as creating opportunities for education and facing challenges, these points are repetitive and lack extended support or specific examples from personal experience. The arguments tend to loop around the same general notions of poverty elimination and goal achievement without fully fleshing out the broader implications of financial planning. To move higher, the writer needs to expand on distinct ideas with detailed explanations and concrete examples rather than restating the same point multiple times.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
The writing demonstrates some overall organisation, but there is no clear overall progression of ideas. The entire text consists of a single massive paragraph with virtually no punctuation or sentence boundaries, making it very difficult to follow the logical flow. Cohesive devices are either missing or used inadequately and repetitively, with words like 'so' and 'because' overused in run-on chains. Paragraphing is absent, which detracts significantly from the structure of the essay. To improve, the writer must divide the response into distinct paragraphs with clear topic sentences, and employ a variety of cohesive devices accurately to guide the reader smoothly from one point to the next.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The vocabulary used is limited and minimally adequate for the task. The writer attempts some less common items such as 'cruishal', 'oppertunaties', and 'saituation', but these attempts are marred by noticeable spelling and word-form errors that reflect a basic lexical range. Words are frequently misspelled (e.g., 'necessory', 'openioun', 'thoes', 'waisely'), and there are issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'collect money' instead of 'save money' or 'to hire in the diffrent company'. While the intended meaning can sometimes be discerned, the frequent lexical errors cause difficulty for the reader. To achieve a higher band, the writer needs to expand their vocabulary range, learn correct spellings of common and less common terms, and use words with greater precision.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The grammatical range is very limited, relying heavily on run-on sentence structures joined by conjunctions rather than distinct simple and complex forms. There are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation, particularly the total lack of capitalisation and terminal punctuation marks, which creates long, breathless sentences. Errors also appear in verb forms, agreement, and prepositions within grammatical patterns, such as 'young people who are faceing' and 'to spent money in left right'. These frequent errors frequently cause difficulty for the reader in untangling clause relationships. To progress, the writer must demonstrate control over basic sentence boundaries, punctuation, and tense consistency while introducing well-controlled complex structures.
