It is important for everyone, including young people, to save money for their future.

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 7.5)
It has been observed that financial planning has become an important part of modern life. Although some people believe that young people should focus on enjoying their present life rather than saving money, I strongly agree that everyone should save money for the future. This essay will discuss the reasons for my view.
The foremost argument to justify my stance is that saving money can provide financial security in the future. Unexpected situations, such as medical emergencies, unemployment or expensive repairs, can create serious financial difficulties. If people have some savings, they can deal with these situations without depending heavily on others or taking loans. For example, a young employee who regularly saves a small amount of money may be able to cover unexpected medical expenses without facing financial stress.
Furthermore, saving money can help young people achieve their long-term goals. Many important goals, such as buying a house, starting a business or pursuing higher education, require a considerable amount of money. Therefore, developing a habit of saving from a young age can make these goals easier to achieve. For instance, a student who saves part of their income from a part-time job may eventually have enough money to pay for further education.
To conclude, I strongly agree that everyone, including young people, should save money for the future. Although enjoying the present is important, having financial security and being able to achieve long-term goals make saving money a valuable habit.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
The response addresses all parts of the task by presenting a clear and well-developed position throughout the essay. The writer agrees that saving money is important for everyone, including young people, and supports this stance with relevant arguments regarding financial security and long-term goals. Ideas are extended and supported with appropriate explanations and examples, such as the mention of medical emergencies and funding higher education. However, there is a slight tendency to over-generalise in the arguments without exploring counter-arguments in greater depth. Additionally, it is important to note that the length requirement is not met, as the response contains 241 words, falling slightly short of the 250-word minimum.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.5
The response demonstrates a clear logical organisation and progression throughout. Each paragraph has a distinct central topic, starting with an introductory stance followed by well-sequenced body paragraphs that discuss financial security and long-term goals respectively, before concluding effectively. Cohesive devices are used flexibly and appropriately to guide the reader through the arguments, such as 'The foremost argument', 'Furthermore', and 'To conclude'. Paragraphing is managed sufficiently and appropriately, contributing to the overall coherence of the text, although transitions between some sentences could be even more subtly blended to reach the highest level.
Lexical Resource: Band 7.0
The student uses a sufficient range of vocabulary to allow some flexibility and precision. Less common lexical items are employed with reasonable awareness of style and collocation, such as 'financial planning', 'financial security', 'unexpected medical expenses', and 'long-term goals'. Word choice is generally natural and appropriate for an academic context. There are occasional minor inaccuracies or common word combinations, but these do not impede communication. Spelling and word formation remain accurate throughout the entire response, showing a solid command of vocabulary suitable for this level.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 7.5
The essay displays a good variety of complex structures alongside simple forms, featuring frequent error-free sentences. The writer demonstrates good control of grammar and punctuation, successfully handling conditional-style meanings, subordinate clauses, and gerund phrases such as 'developing a habit of saving from a young age can make these goals easier to achieve'. Verb forms and tenses are used accurately across different contexts. A few minor errors or awkward phrasings persist, but they do not interfere with the overall clarity or flow of the writing, reflecting a strong command of grammatical range and accuracy.
