Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses the task partially by discussing whether young people should save money, presenting a clear position that saving is important. However, the ideas are limited and under-developed. The reasoning relies heavily on repetitive contrasts between 'young people' and 'old era people' without fully exploring the underlying implications of financial planning. Examples provided, such as buying a new phone, are basic and lack extension. Furthermore, 12 words copied directly from the prompt were excluded from the official count, leaving the student's independent writing at 282 words, which successfully meets the minimum length requirement. To move to a higher band, the writer needs to present fully developed ideas with relevant, well-supported explanations rather than repetitive generalizations.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The response displays some organization with basic paragraphing and rudimentary transitions like 'to begin with me' and 'in the other hand'. However, there is no clear overall progression, and the logical flow is frequently disrupted by abrupt shifts in thought. Cohesive devices are often used inaccurately or repetitively, such as the constant misuse of 'in old era' and 'each other'. Paragraphing is attempted, but internal paragraph cohesion is weak, making it difficult to follow the progression of arguments. To improve coherence, the writer should ensure that every paragraph has a clear central topic supported by logical sequencing and appropriate, varied cohesive devices.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The lexical range is limited and minimally adequate for the task. The vocabulary is repetitive, with frequent reliance on basic words like 'money', 'buy', 'new', and 'save'. There are noticeable lexical errors and inappropriate word choices throughout the text, such as 'heilte isuu', 'poket money', 'wirog', and 'grow businees', which reflect severe spelling and word-form issues. While meaning can sometimes be extracted, these errors cause noticeable difficulty and strain for the reader. To achieve a higher score, the student must expand their vocabulary range, incorporate less common lexical items accurately, and pay closer attention to standard spelling and word formation.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response demonstrates a very limited range of structures, relying mostly on simple sentences joined by coordinating conjunctions or faulty subordination. Attempts at complex sentences are frequently flawed, as seen in problematic structures like 'due to in future come any problem'. There are frequent grammatical errors involving verb forms, tenses, subject-verb agreement, articles, and prepositions inside grammatical patterns, such as 'people not a save thare money' and 'invest there money in a buy a new house'. Punctuation is also erratic, with run-on phrasing and missing terminal punctuation. These frequent errors cause substantial difficulty for the reader. To progress, the writer needs to practice constructing accurate simple and complex sentences with proper control over verb tenses and agreement.
