Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt by presenting a clear position agreeing that saving money is important for everyone, including young people. The main reasons for this stance, such as unexpected health problems and long-term financial security like buying a house, are introduced and explored. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat uneven. For instance, the discussion on health issues in the second body paragraph remains quite general and under-developed, relying on repetitive phrasing rather than fully extended arguments or specific examples from personal knowledge. To reach a higher level, the ideas need to be more thoroughly explained with deeper elaboration and clearer supporting examples that directly connect to the prompt's focus on future financial planning.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction and conclusion, and the response is divided into logical paragraphs. Cohesive devices are employed to signal transitions between ideas, such as 'To begin with' and 'Secondly'. However, cohesion is at times mechanical or faulty, and referencing is not always completely clear. For example, the phrase 'Fot that matters' contains a typo and awkward referencing, while other transitional links feel somewhat rigid rather than flowing naturally. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct points, but to achieve a higher score, the logical progression between sentences within paragraphs needs to be smoother, ensuring that each new idea builds seamlessly upon the previous one without repetitive phrasing.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, providing a sufficient range to communicate the main arguments about saving money. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary items, such as 'sudden expenses', 'financial pressure', and 'lifetime guarantee'. However, there are noticeable inaccuracies in word choice, collocation, and word forms throughout the text. Examples include 'people believes', 'healts issues', 'save a more money', and 'quite amount of money'. Additionally, spelling slips such as 'healts' and 'Fot' appear in the writing. While these lexical errors do not severely impede communication, they restrict the score, as precise word choice and accurate word formation are required for higher bands.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response exhibits a mix of simple and some complex sentence forms, demonstrating an attempt to vary sentence structures with clauses introduced by 'when', 'whether', and 'that'. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly regarding verb forms, agreement, and prepositions within grammatical patterns. Examples of these issues include 'saving money is can be effective', 'each generation should be learn', 'behind of my statement', and 'if they faced with financial pressure, they will more likely to be get'. These errors in grammar and punctuation occur frequently and can occasionally cause some difficulty for the reader, indicating that grammatical control needs to be strengthened across both simple and complex structures.
