Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by presenting a clear position agreeing that young people should save money for their future. Relevant ideas are introduced, such as financial security during unexpected emergencies and achieving major long-term goals like education and business ventures. However, some ideas are more fully developed than others. For example, the point about unexpected difficulties is supported with a relevant example of illness and job loss, whereas the discussion on achieving goals relies on repetitive phrasing and lacks deep elaboration. The position remains clear throughout the essay, satisfying the requirements for this level, though moving to a higher band would require more thoroughly extended and supported arguments across all body paragraphs.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction, two distinct body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate ideas. However, the progression of ideas is sometimes hindered by mechanical or repetitive cohesive devices. Phrases like 'Another important point is that' and 'This can be explained by the fact that' are relied upon heavily, creating a formulaic flow rather than smooth, natural transitions. Referencing is generally clear, but the overuse of basic connectors limits the sophistication of the cohesive structures. To achieve a higher level, the writer should employ a wider variety of cohesive devices more flexibly and ensure that logical transitions between sentences feel more organic.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to communicate their ideas without impeding comprehension. There are attempts to use less common vocabulary, such as 'unexpected financial difficulties' and 'beneficial approach', but these are accompanied by some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'suffered from various diseases' instead of contracting or facing illnesses, and minor typos like 'In may view'. Word forms are generally controlled, but repetition of words like 'important', 'save', and 'money' highlights a limited lexical range. To reach the next band, the writer needs to incorporate a wider variety of precise, less common lexical items with greater stylistic awareness and fewer awkward collocations.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The writer demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting structures such as conditional and relative clauses. There are some errors in grammar and punctuation, such as run-on structures and comma splices in sentences like 'This is because unexpected things can happened anytime in their life', where the past participle is used incorrectly after 'can'. Other minor errors include article omissions and preposition usage within grammatical patterns. Nevertheless, these errors rarely impede communication and the meaning remains clear throughout the text. To improve further, the writer should increase the frequency of error-free complex sentences and exercise tighter control over verb forms and tense consistency.
