Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position of agreement, noting that saving money provides responsibility, security, and discipline for young people. However, the ideas remain limited and under-developed, which keeps the response at this level. While the writer touches on valid points such as emergency funds, personal independence, and long-term planning, these concepts are stated rather than fully explained or extended with rich, detailed examples. For instance, the reference to wanting a phone is too brief to effectively support the broader argument about financial planning. To reach the next level, the writer needs to expand on their main points with well-developed explanations and more substantial, relevant examples.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
There is a basic level of organisation, with the text broken into paragraphs that attempt to group related ideas about security, discipline, and future planning. However, the response lacks a clear overall progression. Cohesive devices are often inadequate, inaccurate, or repetitive, with frequent use of basic connectors like 'that's why', 'ALso on the other hand', and 'It can also'. Additionally, referencing is sometimes unclear, particularly with pronoun usage ('it teach you', 'he don,t need', 'if when he now'), which disrupts the logical flow between sentences. To improve, the writer should use a wider variety of cohesive devices more accurately and ensure that ideas flow smoothly from one paragraph to the next with clear logical links.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The vocabulary used is limited and minimally adequate for discussing the topic, featuring frequent errors in spelling, word choice, and word form that occasionally cause difficulty for the reader. Throughout the text, there are noticeable misspellings such as 'finantal', 'completly', 'veiw', 'cofidence', 'expences', 'indepening', 'relaying', 'bussines', 'oppinon', 'achive', and 'plain'. The writer also struggles with word forms and collocations, such as 'in early age', 'too much cofidence', and 'in the past' when referring to the future or present. To achieve a higher band, the writer must expand their lexical repertoire, learn correct spellings of common words, and improve word choice and collocation accuracy.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The writing demonstrates a very limited range of structures, relying mostly on simple sentences alongside faulty attempts at complex ones. Frequent errors in grammar, punctuation, and tense consistency are present throughout the text, which can cause difficulty for the reader. Examples include fragment sentences like 'because they want to earn money in early age', subject-verb agreement issues such as 'child avoid to relaying', and incorrect verb tenses like 'in the future he don,t need to worry' and 'so if when he now the disciplion'. Punctuation is also weak, marked by run-on sentences and comma splices. To progress, the writer needs to improve sentence variety, master basic grammatical agreements, and reduce errors in tense and sentence boundaries.
