Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0
The response addresses the task only partially, and the length requirement is severely compromised as the text contains only 86 words against the 250-word minimum. While a clear position is stated that saving money is important, the ideas remain very limited and under-developed. For instance, the mention of people suffering from poverty and buying expensive cars or mobile phones is introduced briefly without adequate explanation or supporting examples. To achieve a higher band, the writer must fully develop their position with extended arguments and meet the required word count.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
There is some basic organization with an introductory and a second paragraph starting with "To commence with". However, there is no clear overall progression, and the logical flow is disrupted by abrupt shifts between ideas, such as moving from poverty to expensive cars. Cohesive devices are minimal or inaccurate, with mechanical transitions like "Therefore". Paragraphing is attempted, but the text lacks the structural cohesion required for higher bands. To improve, the writer needs to logically sequence ideas and use cohesive devices more accurately to guide the reader smoothly through the argument.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The vocabulary range is limited and minimally adequate for the task. The student attempts some less common words, but there are noticeable errors in word choice and collocation, such as "neomours citizens" instead of numerous citizens, and "statments" instead of statements. Spelling errors and awkward phrasing, like "built a big houses", cause some difficulty for the reader. To move up to a higher band, the writer should expand their lexical range and pay closer attention to word forms, spelling, and correct collocations in academic contexts.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The writing shows a very limited range of structures, relying mostly on simple sentences with frequent basic errors. There are significant issues with verb forms and tenses, such as "a lot of people suffering from poverty" lacking a main verb, and "they are not save the money". Subject-verb agreement and article usage are also problematic, as seen in "a big houses". Complex sentence structures are not attempted effectively. To improve, the writer needs to increase grammatical accuracy, ensure complete sentence construction, and demonstrate better control over basic verb tenses and pluralization.
