Student answer (Band 6.5)
Nowadays, it is beneficial for everyone, including young adults, to save money for their future. I agree with this view because I believe that saving money is crucial for everybody it is useful in critical situations in the future, Everyone should save money for future to deal with unexpected situations. It helps in Emergency such as health or education and help individuals achieve important long term-goals.
One major reason why saving money is important is that it provides financial security in difficult situations. People may suddenly face unexpected expenses, such as medical bills, unemployment, or urgent household costs. Having some savings can help them manage these problems without borrowing money from others. for example, a young employee who regularly saves part of their salary may be able to cover essential expenses if they lose job unexpectedly. As a result, saving can reduce financial stress and give people greater confidence about their future.
Another important benefit if saving money is that it helps individuals achieve their long-term goals and become financially independent. Young people may need money in the future to pay for higher education, purchase a home, start a business or support their families. Regular saving makes these goals more achievable because even small amounts can accumulate over time. For instance, a university graduate who saves a fixed amount from their money income may eventually have enough money to start a small business or fund further education. Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
The response successfully addresses all parts of the task and presents a clear position throughout. In the introduction and body paragraphs, the writer establishes that saving money is essential for unexpected emergencies and long-term goals. Ideas are extended and supported with relevant examples, such as the young employee facing unemployment and the university graduate starting a small business. However, there is a tendency to over-generalise in places, and some arguments, particularly in the introduction where ideas are slightly repetitive, are less extended than others. This keeps the response solidly within the targeted band, as it clearly covers the core prompt requirements with relevant, supported main ideas, while showing minor tendencies towards generalisation.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The essay demonstrates a clear overall progression and logical organisation throughout, successfully fulfilling the lower band descriptors while showing partial elements of the higher band. Each body paragraph focuses on a distinct central theme, moving logically from emergency financial security to long-term goal achievement. The writer uses cohesive devices such as 'One major reason', 'For instance', and 'In conclusion' to guide the reader. However, cohesion is occasionally mechanical or faulty, seen in minor referencing and transitional clumsiness, such as the missing preposition in 'Another important benefit if saving money'. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately, but the introduction suffers from a run-on sentence structure that disrupts smooth logical flow. Overall, the text is coherent and easy to follow, representing a solid performance at this level.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, successfully communicating the writer's ideas. The student attempts less common items and shows some awareness of collocation, using phrases like 'financial security', 'unexpected expenses', and 'financial independence'. However, there are noticeable lexical inaccuracies and word-form errors that prevent a higher score, such as 'benefit if saving' instead of 'benefit of saving', 'money income' instead of 'monthly income', and 'financial protecting' instead of 'financial protection'. Spelling and word choices are generally clear and do not impede communication, allowing the reader to follow the argument without difficulty. To reach a higher band, the writer needs to demonstrate greater precision in word choice and avoid repetitive errors in word forms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The essay displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing structures such as relative clauses and conditional ideas effectively. There are some errors in grammar and punctuation, but they rarely impede communication. Examples of errors include a run-on sentence in the introduction ('...everybody it is useful...'), missing articles ('lose job unexpectedly' instead of 'lose a job'), and minor prepositional inconsistencies. Despite these errors, the writer maintains good control over basic sentence construction, and punctuation is generally manageable. To progress further, the writer should increase the frequency of error-free complex sentences and eliminate basic agreement and article slips.
