Student answer (Band 6.5)

There has been alot of different strategies and techniques presented ever since the advent of modern monetary systems. But, why do we need to save money?, and, Why is it so heavely focused on irrespective of age and gender? It is widely believed that it is crucial for everyone, inlcuding young people, to focus on saving money for their future. I strongly agree with this statement because circumstances can turn unfavourable anytime for a person and money is one of the means for survival in this modern world.

Various policies have been implemented by governements all over the world. There main purpose is to help people become aware of the dangers and uncertainty that the future might hold, and due to economic unstability it is only wise to save some money for the future. For intance, during the 2008 economic recession, most of the people sufferred economically, and only those were able to survive who had a substantial amount of savings and assests. Therefore, most of the financial advisors are infavour of saving money for emergency pruposes instead of regretting the unpredictabity of the economic structure.

On the other hand, most of the savings were considered to be done by old people for their retirement age, but that is no longer the case. In the present times, old people are not the only ones worried about their financial freedom but even the younger generation have caught-on upon the dangers of uncertain future. These younger generations have established strategies and planned budget for themselves to strategically navigate their way through the system. For example, many young pepole in their 20s have decided to create seperate saving accounts and investment strategies to achieve financial freedom so that they are no longer depend on their usual corporate jobs.

In conclusion, it is only wise for people to start saving money from early-on due to the unpreditability of life and the unstability of the economic system. It is advised by many financial advisors and consultants to create a seperate stream of income that does not make you dependant on one source. Thus, it is not only for young people but for everyone to create plans for their stable future by saving money from as early as possible.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

The response addresses all parts of the task and maintains a clear, well-supported position throughout, which is characteristic of the level. The writer effectively argues in favour of saving money by presenting relevant ideas about economic uncertainty and personal financial survival. For instance, the reference to the 2008 economic recession and the shift in retirement savings trends effectively extends and supports the main argument. However, there is a slight tendency to over-generalise in parts, such as stating that 'most of the financial advisors are in favour' without specific nuance. Some ideas, like the corporate job dependency mentioned in the third paragraph, could have been elaborated further to reach the highest standards, but the overall task coverage is solid, presenting a well-developed stance that directly answers the prompt.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear logical progression throughout, successfully meeting the core requirements of the band while showing flashes of higher-level organisation. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately, separating the introduction, government perspective, individual shift, and conclusion distinctly. Cohesive devices are employed to guide the reader, such as 'On the other hand' and 'In conclusion'. Nevertheless, cohesion is at times a bit mechanical or slightly faulty in referencing, such as the pronoun use in 'Their main purpose' where the antecedent 'policies' makes the reference slightly clumsy, and minor mechanical transitions between ideas. The flow remains understandable and logical, but smoother and more integrated referencing is needed to fully secure a higher level.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

An adequate range of vocabulary is used for the task, successfully communicating the writer's ideas. The student attempts less common vocabulary, such as 'advent', 'monetary systems', 'financial freedom', and 'unpredictability', which demonstrates an ambition to use varied phrasing. However, there are noticeable spelling and word-choice errors that prevent a higher score, including 'alot' (a lot), 'heavely' (heavily), 'inlcuding' (including), 'governements' (governments), 'unstability' (instability), 'sufferred' (suffered), 'assests' (assets), 'infavour' (in favour), 'pruposes' (purposes), 'pepole' (people), and 'dependant' (dependent). While these vocabulary and spelling errors do not impede overall communication, they demonstrate persistent inaccuracies with word forms and spelling that keep the lexical score at this level.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

The writing demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing structures like conditional clauses and relative clauses to convey ideas. There are some errors in grammar and punctuation, but they rarely impede communication. Examples of grammatical and punctuation slips include awkward punctuation in the opening interrogative sentences ('money?, and, Why'), subject-verb agreement issues ('Their main purpose' instead of 'Its main purpose' referring to policies), and prepositional or structural awkwardness such as 'no longer depend on' instead of 'no longer dependent on'. There is good control over many complex structures, but persistent minor errors in punctuation and agreement prevent the attainment of a higher grammatical category.
