Student answer (Band 5.5)

The expense of living nowadays has increased so much. It has now become so much hard to bear those expense for the people who earn on regular bases. It is a believe of many people, a person should save money from it's earning for their future life. I also agree with the statement and also agree with those people.

Saving money in present would benefit you in the future. Every person should made mandatory and develop a habit of saving money from their expenses, as this would benefit them if they got in any problem in future. Future of every person is unpredictable, you do not know if you are going have a wealthy life or not in the future. Every person should made a boundry in their expenses, and should keep little percent of their earning for their future. It will be beneficial for a young person to save money as it would benefit them when they reach their adult hood. They could invest those money, travel the world or if they get in any financial crisis so that money will help them to come out of it. I remeber one of my friend has a habit of saving some amount money from from his pocket money. This habit continues although he was earning a good amount of money. From that saved money he was able to buy a house for himself, he owns it in very little age. This thing has motivated many other around him.

On the other side, budgeting can have disadvantages. It makes the person brain run in a way, like saving all the things which comes in their way. They do not fulfil their needs and try to save every single penny. Many people don't like these type of person and they try to avoid them. If they want to buy something for themself, they hesitate in buying those things. Everbody thinks the person is miser , or mean. Their friends will alway mock them, and avoid meeting them.

It can be concluded, that saving the money in present will benefit you so much in the future. It will help you in your difficult days. You do not have to beg others for help, and are able to do any thing on your own. It will also help your family to have a secure life. You can spend in the future the way you want. The money will also help you after you get retired from your work, and you can have a indpendent life.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the task by presenting a clear position on saving money, and it demonstrates aspects of the next higher band by extending and supporting ideas with a relevant personal example about a friend. However, it also shows characteristics of the band below, as some ideas are under-developed or tend to over-generalise. For instance, the discussion on the negative aspects of budgeting introduces the idea that misers are mocked by their friends, but this point remains somewhat superficial rather than being fully explored with deeper reasoning or varied examples. The main arguments are generally relevant and cover both the necessity of saving and the potential drawbacks of extreme frugality, leading to a well-rounded discussion that satisfies the requirements for a solid mid-range grade.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a logical progression of ideas from the introduction to the body paragraphs and the conclusion. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately, separating the introduction, the benefits of saving, the disadvantages of budgeting, and the final conclusion. However, cohesion is sometimes faulty or mechanical. The writer relies on repetitive transitional phrases such as 'It will' and 'Every person should', and referencing is not always clear, such as when pronouns like 'them' or 'those money' lack precise antecedents. While the logical flow is maintained well enough to make the overall meaning easy to follow, the mechanical use of cohesive devices prevents the text from achieving a higher level of fluid connection between sentences and paragraphs.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'unpredictable', 'financial crisis', and 'indpendent life'. However, there is a noticeable presence of word-choice errors, unnatural collocations, and spelling mistakes that keep the lexical score at this level. Examples of these inaccuracies include 'on regular bases' instead of 'on a regular basis', 'it's earning' instead of 'its earnings', 'made mandatory' instead of 'make it mandatory', 'boundry' instead of 'boundary', and 'adult hood' instead of 'adulthood'. Furthermore, spelling errors such as 'remeber', 'everbody', and 'indpendent' appear throughout the text. These errors do not completely impede communication, but they restrict the precision and fluency expected at higher proficiency bands.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting structures such as conditional and modal clauses. There are some error-free sentences, but frequent grammatical and punctuation errors occur throughout the text. Issues include problems with subject-verb agreement and article usage, such as 'The expense of living... has increased' and 'a person should save money from it's earning'. Other errors involve incorrect prepositional or structural patterns, such as 'Every person should made a boundry in their expenses' and 'invest those money'. While the meaning is generally clear despite these mistakes, the presence of frequent errors in basic and attempted complex structures means the control of grammar remains limited to this particular band level.
