Student answer (Band 7.0)

The growing economy in this contemporary world increases cost of living for people to secure enough savings for their future. Many people believe it is necessary to start saving money from their youth for a better future. I completely agree with the statement, because it is difficult to face the volatile job markets without secure funds.

In the modern economy, repeated down sizing has brought insecurity towards an individual's job. Savings can help young people to survive a gap period of unemployment while looking for better work opportunities. Moreover, savings can be a good source of basic expense when they retire. The habit of saving is not only beneficial for the future, but also teaches the young minds to live economically careful. Instead of spending the money for unnecessary pleasures and luxuries, saving the money can help them maintain funds in crisis. For example, during pandemic, people who saved enough money could survive through the quarantine period, while others struggled without a steady income source.

Furthermore, only the savings can help an individual during emergencies and unexpected health crisis. During such emergencies, saved money is an easy option to spend instead of loans and other difficult options.

On the other hand, some people would argue that saving money from young age can cause burden. People say this would cause difficulty for maintaining present expenses and investments. Moreover, continuous saving means no expenditure for luxuries and other lavish spendings. While these arguments do make sense, I believe the long-term benefits savings offer definitely overweigh the short-term obstacles.

In conclusion, although saving money from early years can cause some difficulties, I believe these hurdles are temporary. However, having a savings plan is beneficial in the long-term and gives security and peace irrespective of the employability problems in the future.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

Your position is clear from the introduction—“I completely agree”—and remains consistent in the conclusion. You address the central issue with relevant reasons: savings can provide security during unemployment, retirement and health emergencies, and your pandemic example helps illustrate this. You also acknowledge the opposing view that saving may restrict present spending, then explain why you consider the long-term benefits greater. This covers the task well. To strengthen the response further, develop some claims with more precise explanation: for instance, clarify how young people can balance saving with current expenses, and expand the emergency-health example beyond stating that savings avoid loans. A little more specific support would make the ideas less general.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The essay has a clear overall progression: you introduce your position, give supporting reasons, consider a counterargument, and conclude. Paragraphing is appropriate, and signposts such as “Moreover,” “Furthermore,” and “On the other hand” help readers follow the argument. The pandemic example is placed naturally within the paragraph about financial security. Some connections are less smooth or precise, however. “Moreover” introduces retirement savings after unemployment without clearly showing how the points relate, while “only the savings” makes the link to emergencies sound overly absolute. You could improve cohesion by using more exact references and transitions that show whether a point is an additional reason, an example, or a consequence. Overall, the organisation is logical and easy to follow.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.5

You use a suitable range of topic vocabulary, including “volatile job markets,” “unemployment,” “basic expense,” “emergencies,” and “long-term benefits.” These choices communicate the main ideas, and attempts at less common expressions show some flexibility. However, several collocations and word forms are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “insecurity towards an individual's job,” “live economically careful,” and “lavish spendings.” “Down sizing” is also incorrectly written as one word in this context, and “peace” is vague in the conclusion. These slips do not prevent understanding, but they limit precision and naturalness. Aim to learn vocabulary in common combinations and check whether a noun, adjective, or adverb is needed in each phrase.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5

You use a mix of simple and complex structures, including a conditional-style explanation (“Savings can help young people to survive… while looking…”) and a concession beginning “although.” Most sentences communicate their meaning clearly. Some grammatical errors remain, particularly with articles, number, and sentence construction. For example, “during pandemic” needs an article, “a good source of basic expense” has a number mismatch, and “only the savings can help an individual” uses an awkward determiner structure. In “the long-term benefits savings offer,” the relationship between “benefits” and “savings” is not clearly marked. Review article use and singular/plural agreement, and revise sentences aloud to check that each noun phrase and clause is complete and clear.
