Student answer (Band 6.5)

In this fast-paced world, financial security has become increasingly crucial for people of all ages. It is widely believed that setting aside money for the future is essential, particularly for younger individuals. While I acknowledge some merits in the opposing view, I firmly agree that saving money is more beneficial, as it provide financial stability and fosters responsible habits from an early age. This essay will elucidate the reasons underpinning my standpoint with relevant example in ensuring paragraphs.

There is a plethora of reasons supporting my standpoint, the most significant being that saving money provides financial stability, enabling younger people to pursue further study in field such as medical or engineering without relying oh a loans, allowing them to study without any financial stress, leading to excellent academic performance. Moreover, saving often act as safety net during emergencies such as sudden job loss, unexpected medical costs. Foe instance, a young professional who loses their job can rely on saving to cover expenses without falling into any debt while searching for new employment.

Another significant reason is that saving from an early age fosters financial discipline, helping individuals to manage their wisely, and avoid impulsive spending. In addition, having savings allows people to prepare for major life milestones, such as a wedding, a car, or a house down payment, without relying on family or a loans. As an illustration, someone who saves consistently from an early age may fund their own wedding without any financial support form family.

On the other hand, some may argue that young people should prioritize spending on travel rather than saving it, as exploring countries and their cultures broadens their worldview and offers valuable life experience. For example, a young person who travel abroad may gain cross-cultural communication skills and develop confident as valuable to their career and their financial savings.

To conclude, although spending money on travel offer new experiences, saving money from an early age provides greater long-term financial stability and security, and thereby largely support this view.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

Your position is clear from the introduction to the conclusion: you firmly support saving, while acknowledging the value of travel. The main reasons—financial security, emergency protection, financial discipline, and preparation for milestones—are relevant and supported with examples, such as a young professional covering expenses after job loss. This addresses the task and develops the argument well. However, the travel counterargument is less fully connected to the question: explain more directly why travel should not take priority over saving, or when a balance between the two is appropriate. Some claims, such as savings leading to excellent academic performance, are asserted rather than fully explained. More precise development of these points would make the response more consistently convincing.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The essay has a clear overall progression: introduction, two supporting paragraphs, a counterargument, and a conclusion. Paragraphs are focused, and signposting such as “Moreover,” “Another significant reason,” and “On the other hand” helps readers follow the argument. Examples are generally placed where they support the relevant point. At times, however, the linking feels formulaic, and some sentences contain several ideas joined together, making the progression less smooth—for example, the sentence about further study moves from savings to reduced stress and then academic performance. The phrase “This essay will elucidate…” is also an unnecessary signpost. Use clearer sentence boundaries and more natural links between claims and explanations to make cohesion more flexible.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.5

You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “financial security,” “financial discipline,” “safety net,” “impulsive spending,” and “cross-cultural communication skills.” These choices show some flexibility and help express the main ideas. There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “the reasons underpinning my standpoint,” though this sounds less natural than simpler academic wording. Several word-choice, collocation, and spelling slips remain, including “relying oh a loans,” “saving often act,” “Foe instance,” and “develop confident.” These do not prevent understanding, but they reduce precision and polish. To strengthen the range further, focus on accurate collocations and natural phrasing, and proofread carefully for spelling and word forms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex structures, including subordinate clauses and participle phrases, as in “While I acknowledge some merits…” and “enabling younger people to pursue further study.” The overall meaning remains clear, but some grammatical errors occur across the response. Examples include subject–verb agreement in “saving often act” and “travel offer,” missing or incorrect articles and plurals in “a loans,” and the incomplete phrase “helping individuals to manage their wisely.” The long sentence beginning “There is a plethora of reasons…” also combines several clauses in a way that makes control less secure. Aim to check agreement, articles, and complete sentence structure, and divide sentences when several explanations are being added.
