Student answer (Band 5.5)

In today's rapidly evolving world, the issue of saving money has become a matter of considerable public interest, prompting widespread debate regarding its impact on individuals and society. While some firmly believe that it's crucial for everyone, including young people, to save money for their future, others don't think that it is not much important. I strongly agree that there should be sufficient funds saved for future.

On the one hand, saving money rewards you with the hope of sufficient funds for the future, in today's world where financial overthinking is making people lose their minds and getting affected by different ailments due to the after-effects, a sense of safety ought to be available in terms of savings in the bank account. For instance, in asian families where young population is already surviving to meet their needs of bread and butter, thinking about future financial situation makes them get into hospitals due to the anxiety element caused by the element of financial thinking.

On the other hand, saving funds for future offers benefit in terms of achieving your goals for the bucket list. Every human since their childhood gets directly into the harsh spin-wheel of getting a better life and have a prosperous family, during this period they forget about themselves and forget to enjoy their hobbies and life goals. Enough financial savings should be put aside for that purpose to enjoy the later part of life after retirement.

To conclude, I firmly maintain that future savings are crucial to lead a prosperous and enjoyful life, as enough savings keeps you out of overthinking and lets you enjoy the later part of life after retirement.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

Your position is clear in the introduction and conclusion: you strongly agree that people should save for the future. You also give two relevant reasons—financial security and being able to pursue goals later in life—and include an example about financial anxiety. However, the discussion only partly develops the task. The example about Asian families is broad and its connection between saving and illness is not clearly explained, while the point about enjoying hobbies and life goals is not supported with a specific illustration. Develop each reason through a clearer explanation or example, and address more directly why saving matters to young people in particular. The response meets the stated length requirement; 11 words copied from the task prompt were not counted.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable overall structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs signposted by “On the one hand” and “On the other hand,” and a conclusion that restates your position. This makes the main line of argument easy to follow. However, the first body paragraph contains a long sentence that combines several ideas about financial pressure, health and savings, so the relationships between them become difficult to track. Some references are also unclear, such as “during this period,” which does not specify exactly which stage of life you mean. Use shorter sentences to separate claims and explanations, and make links between ideas more precise rather than relying mainly on standard paragraph-opening phrases.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You attempt a range of topic-related and less common expressions, including “considerable public interest,” “financial situation,” “prosperous family” and “later part of life.” This gives you some useful vocabulary for discussing money and future planning. However, several choices are unnatural or imprecise, such as “financial overthinking,” “harsh spin-wheel,” “bucket list” in this context, and “enjoyful life.” There are also awkward collocations, including “sufficient funds saved for future” and “meet their needs of bread and butter.” These choices sometimes make the intended meaning less clear. Aim for more conventional, precise phrases about financial security, living costs and retirement, and check spelling and capitalisation, as in “Asian.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use both simple statements and attempts at longer, more complex sentences, and your main position remains understandable. However, complex structures are not consistently controlled. For example, “others don't think that it is not much important” contains confusing negation and an incorrect construction; “there should be sufficient funds saved for future” is missing an article; and “Every human … gets … and have” has a subject–verb agreement problem. The first body paragraph also runs several clauses together, making punctuation and sentence boundaries difficult to follow. Practise building complex sentences with one clear main clause and carefully attached supporting clauses, and check agreement, articles and punctuation during revision.
