Student answer (Band 6.0)

In the current societal landscape, saving is essential for every individual regardless of age. There has been an ongoing debate that people should save money for their future. I strongly agree with this notion because savings play a significant role in financial stability over a long period of time, and saves us from unnecessary debts.

One view point is that, people should be taught to save some money aside from an early age. It is crucial in terms of financial security. Moreover, those who save some amount of their pay side by side are less likely to undergo any debts. For instance, those who saves are less likely to suffer from the pressure of credit card loans during unforseen circumstances such as medical emergencies, appliance or car maintanace.

Furthermore, the young generation should also start saving in their early 20s. In this way, they could support their higher educations or even start a business of their preference. In addition, saving money also help families to cover the educational or wedding finances. However, in the long run, it is beneficial for the retired people, who wants to take rest from their working schedule. They can start a business from their saved money or can even spend the rest of their life doing nothing. Conversely, a handsome amount of money saved from an early age also helps in personal growth. To illustrate, boys who want to buy their ideal models of car could save money during their working days, and become able to purchase the car in the future.

To sum up, although saving is an essential part of our everyday life, I believe there should be a balance between saving and spending. People should not only save but also learn to spend their money to enjoy the blessings of life.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear from the introduction: you strongly agree that saving supports financial stability and helps people avoid debt. You address the importance of saving for young people and give relevant examples, including emergencies, education, starting a business and retirement. This covers the task well, and the range of examples shows some development beyond a simple assertion. However, several points are listed rather than explained: for example, the idea that saving helps families with wedding costs and the suggestion that retirees can start a business are not explored. The car example is also quite narrow. To strengthen the response further, explain how one or two examples demonstrate the long-term value of saving, and connect the conclusion’s call for balance more explicitly to your main argument.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable structure, moving from a clear introduction through supporting paragraphs to a conclusion. Linking expressions such as “Moreover,” “Furthermore,” and “To sum up” help signal the stages of the argument. However, progression within the second body paragraph is less controlled: it moves from young adults’ education and business plans to family expenses, retirement, and then buying a car, so several distinct ideas compete for attention. “Conversely” does not introduce a clear contrast in that context, and “In this way” has a somewhat unclear reference. Group related examples into a more focused paragraph and use transitions that show the precise relationship between ideas. This would make the overall organisation more coherent and cohesion less mechanical.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “financial stability,” “financial security,” “credit card loans,” and “unforeseen circumstances.” These choices help communicate the main points, and some more formal expressions suit an academic essay. There are also several inaccurate or unnatural choices that limit precision, such as “save some money aside,” “undergo any debts,” and “educational or wedding finances.” Spelling errors in “unforseen” and “maintanace” also detract from control. Aim for natural collocations and check spelling carefully; for instance, people incur debt, set money aside, and cover education or wedding expenses. More precise phrasing would make your examples clearer without requiring more complicated vocabulary.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex forms, including a reason clause with “because,” a relative clause beginning “who,” and conditional phrasing such as “those who save… are less likely.” The main ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. Examples include “those who saves” instead of “those who save,” “saving money also help” instead of “helps,” and “retired people, who wants” instead of “who want.” There are also sentence-boundary and punctuation issues, such as the unnecessary comma after “One view point is that” and the comma before “and saves us” in the introduction. Review subject–verb agreement and punctuation, then proofread each sentence for a clear subject and verb. This would improve accuracy while preserving your range of structures.
