To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Saving money is essential for everyone, including the young generation, to secure their future. I strongly agree with the view because saving money is a key for a bright future.
The main reason for saving money is to handle unexpected problems. Many people face unexpected difficulties throughout their lives. Therefore, saving money is important for securing their future. For example, nowadays, most of people lose their jobs, and savings help them manage their expenses and survive while looking for a new job.
Furthermore, another reason for saving money is to achieve their goals. Many people have different goals for which they need to save their money. For instance, Many people aim to buy a car or a house. Therefore, saving money helps them to achieve their goals.
To conclude, I strongly believe that everyone should save money for a better future, as it helps them to handle unexpected problems and to achieve their goals. Parents should teach their children how to save money for future needs.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
Your position is clear: you strongly agree that people should save, and you give two relevant reasons—coping with unexpected problems and achieving goals. The examples of losing a job and saving for a car or house help illustrate these points. However, the response addresses the task only partially because both reasons are stated briefly rather than explained in depth; for example, you do not show how savings might support someone during a period of unemployment or help them reach a goal over time. The response is also 84 words below the required minimum, which limits the opportunity to develop your argument. Extend each main idea with explanation and a specific example, and consider addressing why saving matters particularly for young people.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a coherent overall arrangement: an introduction states your view, two body paragraphs present separate reasons, and the conclusion restates your position. Linking expressions such as “Furthermore,” “For example,” and “To conclude” make the sequence easy to follow. This clear organisation meets the expected level, and the paragraphs each have a recognisable purpose. However, cohesion is somewhat mechanical because several sentences repeat “saving money” and “goals,” and “Therefore” is used to connect ideas that could be linked more naturally. Some references are also broad, as in “Many people have different goals.” To strengthen progression, explain the connection between each claim and its example, and use pronouns or varied transitions where the reference remains clear.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use adequate vocabulary to communicate the main points, including “unexpected difficulties,” “expenses,” “survive,” and “achieve their goals.” These choices are relevant to the topic, and the meaning remains clear. However, the range is limited and several phrases are repetitive or imprecise. “A key for a bright future” is not a natural collocation, while “most of people” and “Many people” repeated across the response reduce variety. There is also an unnecessary capital letter in “Many” after “For instance,” which affects written accuracy. Aim for more precise financial vocabulary and natural collocations, such as describing an emergency fund or financial security, while avoiding repeated general terms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
Your writing includes a mix of simple sentences and some more developed structures, such as “I strongly agree with the view because…” and “as it helps them to handle unexpected problems.” Most sentences are straightforward to understand, and errors do not prevent the reader from following your argument. Some grammatical inaccuracies remain, including “most of people,” where the article is missing, and “Many people have different goals for which they need to save their money,” which is awkwardly structured. The response relies heavily on simple sentence patterns, so it shows only a modest range. Practise combining related ideas with accurate subordinate clauses and check articles and sentence construction during editing.
