IELTS Writing Task 2 question
It is important for everyone, including young people, to save money for their future.
To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 6.5)
People, especially younger people, are often advised to accumulate funds for their future. I strongly agree with this because those accumulated funds could be used to cover medical expenses, or they could help to buy expensive items that they cannot afford right now without borrowing any loans.
As people grow older, their health may deteriorate. Especially if they don't eat healthy food or exercise regularly, they might be diagnosed with a disease, or their health may get worse for a temporary period of time. In these types of situations they can use their accumulated funds to pay those bills instead of taking out loans that might overwhelm them further and worsen their condition . For example, if someone is diagnosed with cancer and has saved up some money then they can use those funds to initiate their treatment process.
Furthermore, younger people are more ambitious and they might have set objectives goals that they want to achieve by certain period of time. Those objectives might include studying at a good educational institute or it might be to buy something expensive. The savings can help in those situations by allowing the individiuals to achieve those goals or buy the things required to function with their life without needing to borrow any loans from anyone. This also makes them feel more independent and even if they make any wrong choice they don't owe anyone a penny which doesn't have any impact on their mental health.
In conclusion, people including younger ones should understand the significance of saving up the money for their future. It could help them to pay off their medical bills without borrowing from anyone and they can achieve any objectives without worrying for financial constraints.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
Your position is clear from the introduction: you strongly agree that saving is important, and the conclusion returns to this view. You give two relevant reasons—meeting medical costs and funding personal goals—and the cancer-treatment example helps illustrate the first. This addresses the task, but the reasons are not equally developed: the medical point has a concrete example, while the discussion of education or expensive purchases remains general. The claim that young people are “more ambitious” is also broad and would benefit from explanation or qualification. To strengthen the response, develop each reason with a specific example and explain more fully how saving supports future security, rather than focusing mainly on avoiding loans.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs presenting separate reasons, and a conclusion. “Furthermore” signals the move to the second reason, while “In conclusion” makes the ending easy to follow. The progression within each paragraph is generally logical, especially from possible illness to the use of savings for treatment. However, some links are mechanical, and the long second body paragraph combines several ideas—education, purchases, independence, and mental health—without clearly separating or developing them. References such as “those situations” and “those goals” are understandable but could be more precise. Use clearer topic sentences and divide or sequence the supporting points so each paragraph has a more focused line of development.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “accumulate funds,” “medical expenses,” “financial constraints,” and “independent.” These choices communicate the main ideas clearly, and there are attempts to use more formal language. However, some wording is repetitive or imprecise: “accumulated funds” and “savings” recur, while “borrow any loans” is an unnatural collocation. “Objectives goals” is redundant, and “function with their life” does not express the intended idea naturally. There is also a spelling error in “individ iuals” (written as “individ iuals” in the response as “individ iuals”); check the spelling of “individuals.” Aim for more precise collocations and vary repeated terms without sacrificing clarity.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex forms, including conditional structures such as “if someone is diagnosed with cancer … they can use those funds” and a subordinate clause beginning “Especially if they don’t eat healthy food.” Most sentences remain understandable, but some grammatical and punctuation errors persist. For example, “by certain period of time” needs an article, and “they might have set objectives goals” has an awkward structure and redundant noun phrase. The sentence beginning “The savings can help” shifts between singular “it” and plural “goals,” making the reference less controlled. There is also an unnecessary space before the full stop after “condition.” Review articles, sentence boundaries, and pronoun references, while continuing to use varied sentence structures.
