Student answer (Band 7.0)

It is very significant for the younger generation to budget their money for the future. This essay will stress the importance for young adults to save money for their future as it will allow them to have a safety net and also keep them stress free for later on in their lives.

Building an emergency fund during an individual's youth allows them to have a safeguard for further on in their lives. When people know they have enough money to sustain themselves, it allows them to take bigger risks. It also leaves them with a margin for error, in case things do not work out. For example, many people invest as much money as they can during their twenties and then transition their career towards entrepeneurship, where they can take bigger risks and reap higher rewards. This way people leverage their savings from their early days to become more successful in the future.

Building a notable bank balance early on in one's life allows them to live stress free. People tend to have families later on in their lives. This can lead to them not being able to save as much money, due to increased expenditures. If a person already invested in stocks or mutual funds at the beginning of his career he will be able to benefit from his profits compounding over the years. For example, in Pakistan basic mutual funds provide a return of ten percent per year. If someone invested 10 percent of his monthly salary in these funds from the age of 20 to 30, by the time he has children around the age of 40, he will have a large amount of money at his disposal. Although some people may argue that twenties are meant to be the years to enjoy life and travel, all these activities can also be done later, when you are older.

In conclusion, while some individuals debate that your youth should be spent experiencing what the world has to offer and at times splurging money, the benefits of budgeting for your midlife outweigh the short term enjoyments. Having a safety net will allow people to take tough decisions that they may have not taken otherwise and also let them live without any tension for the latter part of their lives.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

Your position is clear: you support saving, and the introduction, body paragraphs and conclusion consistently explain why. You address the prompt with two relevant benefits—financial security that enables risk-taking, and reduced pressure when family expenses rise—and support them with examples, including career changes and investing in mutual funds. These ideas are extended rather than merely listed. To strengthen the response further, qualify broad claims such as “all these activities can also be done later” and explain more precisely how saving applies to everyone, not only young adults who invest. The discussion of returns in Pakistan is relevant, but a brief explanation of the assumptions behind the example would make its support more convincing.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The essay has a clear overall progression: it states a position, develops one main benefit in each body paragraph, and returns to the argument in the conclusion. Topic sentences such as “Building an emergency fund…” and “Building a notable bank balance…” help readers follow the structure, while examples are placed where they support the relevant point. Linking expressions including “For example,” “This way,” and “Although” are used flexibly. At times, however, the connections between claims could be more explicit: the move from having savings to taking entrepreneurial risks, for instance, would benefit from a sentence explaining the link. The conclusion also repeats several earlier points rather than synthesising them, so a more concise final summary would improve cohesion.

Lexical Resource: Band 7.0

You use a sufficient range of vocabulary to discuss saving and its consequences, including “safety net,” “margin for error,” “expenditures,” “compounding,” and “mutual funds.” These choices show awareness of topic-specific language, and the meaning remains clear throughout. Some phrasing is less natural or precise, however: “stress free” and “without any tension” repeat the same idea, while “further on in their lives” and “notable bank balance” are awkward in context. There is also a spelling error in “entrepeneurship.” Aim for more idiomatic collocations and avoid repeating general expressions when a precise term is available. For example, “financial resilience” could replace repeated references to being stress-free.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 7.0

You demonstrate a variety of sentence forms, including complex clauses with “when,” “where,” “in case,” and “although.” Many sentences are controlled and easy to understand, such as “This can lead to them not being able to save as much money, due to increased expenditures.” A few grammatical issues remain. In “If a person already invested … he will be able,” the conditional structure would be more consistent as “If a person invests …, they will be able.” The sentence beginning “If someone invested 10 percent…” also shifts from past-tense “invested” to “will have,” where a hypothetical conditional would be clearer. Check punctuation around introductory clauses and avoid unnecessary spacing before punctuation. More consistent conditional forms would improve accuracy.
