Student answer (Band 5.5)

Many people argue that people should save money for future in order to secure their life. While others have different views on this perspective. I totally agree with the statement, as saving money helps an individual during his bad days.

Starting from this, money can be the source of comfort or discomfort for someone in their good or bad days. One of the reasons is that if someone saves money for the difficult time then it brings comfort to his life. For example, saving money might be helpful when there is a medical emergency. Therefore, money brings the person out from his difficult time, and the person gets benefit from the condition by gaining trust of others as well.

On the other hand, money can bring discomfort in the person life as well. This can be explained by the fact that makes the person to beg for money in-front of others. As a result, it makes the person uncomfortable and insulted. Forexample, if a person goes with the tragedy or an accident, and he is unable to compensate for that event, and find himself helpless because of lack of money. Then, it would be difficult for him to get rid of such situations. As a result, also people don't trust him.

Explaining both the aspects, I totally agree with the statement that people including the young should have to save their money for the futuristic goals and plans. Therefore, saving some of the money from the salaries and the pocket money make them confident in their bad and difficult times.

To conclude, saving money will lead to the better future of young generations, and is important for their well-being as well.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear from the introduction (“I totally agree”) and remains consistent in the conclusion. You give relevant reasons, especially the example of savings helping during a medical emergency, and explain how financial security can reduce dependence on others. However, the response does not fully develop the task’s focus on why saving matters for everyone, particularly young people. The second body paragraph mainly describes the discomfort of having no money, rather than developing a distinct reason to save, and the point about others’ trust is not clearly explained. To strengthen the response, extend each main idea with a clearer explanation and a specific example, such as how young people can save for education or unexpected expenses.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion, and the overall position is easy to follow. Some linking expressions, such as “For example” and “To conclude,” help signal the stages of the argument. However, progression within the body paragraphs is sometimes unclear. “Starting from this” does not clearly introduce the first reason, while “On the other hand” suggests a contrasting argument even though the paragraph continues to support saving. The repeated use of “As a result” also makes cohesion feel mechanical, and references such as “that event” are not precise. Use topic sentences that state each reason directly, and connect examples to the point they illustrate.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use enough vocabulary to communicate the general argument, including terms such as “medical emergency,” “compensate” and “well-being.” However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are unnatural, which sometimes makes the meaning less clear. For example, “secure their life,” “bad days,” “get benefit from the condition” and “futuristic goals” do not express the intended ideas naturally. There are also spelling and spacing errors, including “Forexample.” Aim to use precise, familiar academic phrases rather than forcing less suitable expressions. Learning collocations related to financial planning—such as “build financial security” and “cover unexpected expenses”—would make your argument clearer and more fluent.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including conditional structures such as “if someone saves money for the difficult time then it brings comfort to his life.” This shows an effort to vary sentence forms, but control is inconsistent, and errors sometimes make sentences difficult to follow. For instance, “This can be explained by the fact that makes the person to beg” is missing a clear subject after “that” and uses an incorrect verb pattern. In “saving some of the money from the salaries and the pocket money make them confident,” the subject and verb do not agree. The sentence beginning “For example, if a person goes…” also becomes incomplete and overloaded. Practise building accurate clauses and checking agreement, articles and sentence boundaries.
