It is important for everyone, including young people, to save money for their future.

To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Student answer (Band 6.5)

Some people argue that it is essential for every person to save money for their future, including young people. In this essay, I shall explain why I agree with the statement because saving money is an investment for future events and starting from a young age can help them ensure financial security.

The most important aspect of saving money for future is that it becomes one of the best investments for a person. Saving money does not mean a person being cheap, rather it means the person is thinking two steps ahead. Saving 100 dollars each month can lead to 1,200 dollars a year, and by 5 years it will become 6,000 dollars. This extra money from the savings can help a person in different ways. For instance, if a person suddenly lose their job, their savings can help them to sustain until they find a new opportunity. This shows how much savings can help you recover from a difficult time.

Practicing this habit from an early age can benefit one significantly. Most young persons under the age of 18 don't have to spend their money on paying bills, or groceries. So if they start saving until they reach maturity, they can end up with a decent amount of savings once they start their adulthood. This start-up money can allow them to ensure the financial security until they get a proper job. So, starting to save money from an early age can help a person throughout the beginning of their career.

In conclusion, saving money is an essential skill that everyone should acquire for the betterment of their future and young people should start picking up this habit as early as possible. Not only it works as a great investment but also it helps young people to be financially secure.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

Your position is clear from the introduction—“I agree with the statement”—and remains consistent in the conclusion. You address both the general value of saving and the particular benefit of starting young. The job-loss example and the calculation of monthly savings give the first reason concrete support, while the discussion of young people having fewer expenses develops the second. This meets the task well, with relevant ideas extended and supported. To strengthen the response further, qualify broad claims such as “Most young persons under the age of 18 don't have to spend their money” and explain more precisely how savings can provide security during the transition to adulthood. A brief acknowledgement of circumstances in which saving may be difficult would also add nuance.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The essay has a clear, effective structure: an introduction states your view, each body paragraph develops a separate reason, and the conclusion restates the position. The progression from savings as protection against job loss to the advantages of beginning young is logical. Linking phrases such as “For instance,” “So,” and “In conclusion” help guide the reader, and the examples are placed where they support the relevant point. At times, however, the connections are somewhat repetitive or explicit, particularly the repeated use of “So” to introduce consequences. The reference in “This shows how much savings can help you recover” also shifts from the general “a person” to “you.” Use more varied transitions and maintain consistent referencing to make cohesion smoother.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary to discuss the topic, including “financial security,” “investment,” “sustain,” and “opportunity.” These choices make your main points clear, and the language is generally appropriate to an essay about personal finance. However, some expressions are imprecise or do not collocate naturally, such as “for future events,” “start-up money,” and “ensure the financial security.” “Investment” is also used broadly for savings without explaining how the money grows. There is some repetition of “saving money,” “savings,” and “young people.” Aim for more precise financial vocabulary and vary repeated terms; for example, distinguish an emergency fund from an investment and describe savings as providing a financial cushion.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5

You use a mix of simple and complex structures, including a reason clause (“because saving money is an investment”) and a conditional example (“if a person suddenly lose their job”). Most sentences communicate their meaning clearly, and the essay includes some accurate longer sentences. Some grammatical errors remain: “a person suddenly lose” should be “a person suddenly loses,” and “Most young persons” would more naturally be “Most young people.” In “can allow them to ensure the financial security,” the article and noun phrase need adjustment, for example, “can help them achieve financial security.” The sentence beginning “Saving money does not mean…” also needs clearer punctuation around “rather.” Review subject–verb agreement, articles, and punctuation while retaining your varied sentence forms.
