Student answer (Band 5.5)

Certain individuals think that it is very consequential to budget properly and save the money for the future including elderly and adults. Though budgeting is very essential in everyday life but i partially agree with this point of view as it will save us from many inevitable problems and give financial security but at the same time it will be hard to balance for youngsters with modern spending habits and inflation.

Firstly, it is a very appreciable habit to budget our monthly finances whether its a student, a professonal or a house-wife. Planning everything will help us to cut our unnecessary finances. And, it prepares us to face the unexpected emergencies. For example, a sudden job loss or in any kind of medical emergency, saved money will help to face the challenges more confidently as compared to the situation when a person is totally penniless. Secondly, budgeting gives financial security. For instance, an adult can invest it into any business and for an elderly it will be like an insurance for the future.

In contarst, for a young person it will be very difficult to keep moderation, when he/she has a long wishlist. So, this mindset will not allow them to live their life freely. For example, to keep a modern lifestyle and stay in the race, an adult cannot keep balance between needs and finances. Moreover, in current inflation, people are hardly making both ends meet. In this case, how they can keep balance betwee

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You present a partial position: you support saving for emergencies and financial security, while arguing that young people may find it difficult because of spending pressures and inflation. These are relevant reasons, and the examples of job loss, medical costs and investment help illustrate them. However, the discussion of young people’s difficulties is not fully explained, and the response ends mid-sentence at “how they can keep balance betwee…”, leaving the argument and conclusion incomplete. The task also requires at least 250 words; the response is four words short. To strengthen the response, complete the counterargument, clarify whether you still believe young people should save despite these obstacles, and add a concise conclusion that restates your position.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an opening position, a paragraph supporting saving, and a contrasting paragraph about young people’s spending pressures. Sequencing words such as “Firstly,” “Secondly,” and “In contrast” make the main shifts easy to follow. However, the final paragraph stops before its point is completed, so the overall progression and ending are missing. Some links are also mechanical, and the opening sentence combines several ideas without a clear progression. Develop each paragraph around one central point, use references such as “this habit” or “these pressures” clearly, and finish with a conclusion. This would make the organisation feel more complete and the connections between ideas less formulaic.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “financial security,” “unexpected emergencies,” “medical emergency,” and “inflation.” These expressions help communicate the main ideas, and attempts such as “penniless” show some willingness to use less common language. However, several choices are inaccurate or unnatural, including “consequential” for the importance of saving, “cut our unnecessary finances,” and “keep moderation.” There are also spelling errors such as “professonal” and “contarst.” These do not generally prevent understanding, but they reduce precision. Aim for natural collocations and check spelling carefully; for example, describe reducing unnecessary spending and maintaining a balance between needs and wants.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex structures, including a concession with “Though…” and conditional examples such as “when a person is totally penniless.” The main message is usually understandable, but some sentence structures and punctuation are inaccurate. For example, “Though budgeting is very essential… but…” uses two contrasting markers where one is needed, and “whether its a student…” lacks the apostrophe in “it’s” and has an awkward construction. The final sentence is incomplete, and the opening sentence is difficult to follow because several clauses are joined together. Practise forming complete sentences with one clear main clause, then add subordinate clauses accurately; also check capitalisation, apostrophes and sentence endings.
