Student answer (Band 6.5)

Many people believe that everyone including children should save money for their future. I strongly agree with this view because saving money is a part of financial education and it can save one from borrowing loans.

Saving money is a good habit because it guides us to spend responsibily. If young children start saving from early age, it would become their habit and they would keep doing the same when they grow up. On the other hand, children who spend irresponsibily and do not save tend to find it difficult to change their spending habit later in their life after growing up. Additionally, people who adopt saving habit from early age are more likely to run a successful business.

Another benefit of saving money is that it makes one more financially independent. Those who save money when they have enough, could use it when required, especially in case of emergencies. For instance, an employee should save part of his salary during his job, which could be used later if he or she is fired or resigned from the job. A study by NUST Bussiness school finds that people who start saving from early age are 38% less likely to take a loan. Furthermore, the recent lay-offs in the IT field due to Artificial Intelligence has proven that people who did not save money during their job, suffered the most after their lay-off compared to their colleagues who saved money and survived easily during their unemployement period.

In conclusion, everyone should save money irrespective of their age as this could make us financially strong and protect us from taking loans.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

Your position is clear from the opening: you strongly agree that saving is important for everyone, including young people, and the conclusion reinforces this view. You address the task with relevant reasons, especially developing saving as a habit and as protection against emergencies or unemployment. The salary example and the reference to layoffs help support your argument. This is a solid response, though some claims are asserted more than explained: for example, the link between early saving and running a successful business is not clarified, and the study statistic is presented without explaining its source or significance. Develop these points with a brief explanation of how saving leads to the stated outcome, and avoid broad claims that are not fully supported.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction states your view, two body paragraphs present separate benefits, and the conclusion restates your position. Ideas generally progress logically, and signposts such as “Additionally,” “For instance,” and “Furthermore” help readers follow the argument. The organisation is effective, but some linking is a little mechanical, with several additions introduced in succession. There is also a long sentence beginning “Furthermore” that combines layoffs, saving, and unemployment outcomes, making the relationship between the points less easy to follow. Use a clearer sequence of claim, explanation, and example, and vary transitions with referencing or more direct links between sentences.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “financial education,” “financially independent,” “emergencies,” and “lay-offs,” which makes the argument clear. There are also attempts at more specific phrasing, such as “spending habit” and “unemployment period.” However, some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward, including “responsibily,” “irresponsibily,” “adopt saving habit,” and “survived easily.” “Bussiness” and “unemployement” are spelling errors. These do not prevent understanding, but they limit precision and naturalness. Build accuracy by checking spelling and learning common combinations such as “develop a saving habit,” “spend responsibly,” and “cope during unemployment.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5

You use a mix of simple and complex structures, including conditional clauses (“If young children start saving…”) and relative clauses (“which could be used later…”). Most sentences communicate the intended meaning, and errors rarely obstruct understanding. Some grammatical control is inconsistent, however. In “Those who save money when they have enough, could use it,” the comma is unnecessary; “from early age” needs an article; and “the recent lay-offs … has proven” has a subject–verb agreement error. The sentence about an employee being “fired or resigned” also needs parallel grammatical forms, such as “fired or made redundant.” Review articles, agreement, punctuation, and parallel structures to make your complex sentences more consistently accurate.
