Student answer (Band 6.0)
It is essential for everyone, including young people, to save money for their future. I agree with this statement because saving money can benefit individuals in the long run.
It is crucial to save money and refrain from lavish purchases. No one knows when an emergency can appear in your life. For that particular reason, I believe that saving money is essential to living a carefree life. For instance, someone in your family becomes ill, and without money you will not be able to help your own family members, as you have spent it all on unnecessary purchases. However, if you have saved money, keep future emergencies in mind. You might be able to help your family. I was diagnosed with congenital heart disease, but my father had no savings, so my brothers had to step in to help me afford the medical care. It might be the main reason for which I believe that people should save money.
Saving money is not only for elderly people, but it also includes young people. When people are young, they do not think about saving much. They do not plan for future adversities. When faced with an emergency, they often have to take a loan from someone else to get through that emergency, which could have been avoided if they had saved money. When we are young and have money, we often want to spend it on a brand-new phone or a new bike, as we link materialistic things with our worth. Those who do not have enough often feel they are less than others. It is not the right way to judge your worth, as it is a never-ending cycle. Every year, there will be a new model of that phone and bike, but you need to realize that they do not make your worth; you do. I believe that young people need to save money, as they can use it at their wedding or in an emergency.
In conclusion, I believe that saving money for the future is very important. It helps people to go through difficult situations with ease. Young people can use it on meaningful things rather than linking materialistic things to their worth.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
Your position is clear from the introduction to the conclusion: you agree that saving is important, and you give relevant reasons involving emergencies and young people’s spending habits. The personal example about your heart condition and your brothers helping with medical costs makes the argument concrete. This fully addresses the task, but the support is uneven: the emergency argument is illustrated in detail, while the point about saving for a wedding is only briefly mentioned and not explained. Some claims, such as young people often needing loans, would also benefit from a specific example or clearer explanation. To strengthen the response further, develop each main reason more evenly and show how it supports your position.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion, and the main ideas are generally relevant to their paragraphs. However, progression within the body paragraphs is sometimes difficult to follow. In the first, the hypothetical family emergency shifts abruptly to your personal experience, and the sentence beginning “However, if you have saved money, keep future emergencies in mind” is unclear in its connection to the previous point. The second paragraph moves from loans to consumer goods and self-worth, then to weddings, without clearly linking these ideas. Use clearer topic sentences and transitions that explain the relationship between points, and make pronoun references more precise.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough vocabulary to discuss saving, emergencies and spending, including phrases such as “lavish purchases,” “future adversities” and “materialistic things.” The personal example is also expressed in language that is easy to understand. However, some wording is repetitive or imprecise: “emergency” appears several times close together, and “use it at their wedding” does not clearly convey what the savings would pay for. Phrases such as “go through difficult situations with ease” are understandable but broad. Aim for more precise collocations and vary repeated terms—for example, distinguish between an emergency fund, unexpected medical costs and financial security. This would make the argument more fluent and exact.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentences, including conditional structures such as “if you have saved money” and clauses beginning “When people are young.” Most of the meaning remains clear, but some sentence constructions are awkward or incomplete. “However, if you have saved money, keep future emergencies in mind” does not form a clear conditional statement; revise it to make the result explicit. In “someone in your family becomes ill,” the shift from a hypothetical situation to “you will not be able” also makes the example less consistent. There are some punctuation and sentence-boundary issues, particularly where ideas are joined or shifted abruptly. Practise building clear conditional sentences and checking that each clause has a complete, consistent structure.
