It is important for everyone, including young people, to save money for their future.

Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is essencial for individuals of all ages to keep money for the future. While some believe this is a negative development as this could put a limit to their present budget, I firmly believe this is a positive development because it provides a financial back-up plan for future days.

On the one hand, some people believe saving money for future perposes is unneccesary and has no purpose. This is not only because they think their source of income will always be steady, but they are also optimistic about what the future holds. For instance, some think the money they will earn the same amount of money at all times, and are certain they will never be expeled from their work or job. Furthermore, they think keeing money for future purposes will only limit the money they can spend today. To illustrate this view, they believe saving 10,000 dollars of the money they have now means taking out that amount from today's budget, and that they can earn 10,000 dollars again in the future.

On the other hand, I firmly believe saving and investing money has positive impact. One reason for this is having a second plan if their source of money in the future is no longer reliable. Another advantage of this is money in the case of emergancy or if they can't afford something neccesary in the future. An example of this, if a person got involved in an accident, they would have money from the past to pay for the hospital, as well as support them financially if they had to stop their work due to surgury for instance.

In conclusion, keeping money for future years is important, even for younger people. While some seem to disagree. I completely agree with this view.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear from the introduction (“I firmly believe”) and conclusion, and you address the prompt by considering both the concern that saving limits present spending and the benefits of having funds for future needs. The examples of job loss and paying hospital costs after an accident are relevant and help explain your view. This meets the task well overall, but some ideas are less fully developed than others: the opposing view is explained at length, while the benefits of saving are listed more briefly. The claim that people expect their income to remain steady could be connected more explicitly to why saving is still prudent. Develop each main reason with a clearer explanation or specific example to make the argument more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, two contrasting body paragraphs, and a conclusion. “On the one hand” and “On the other hand” make the shift between viewpoints easy to follow, and the examples generally appear beside the ideas they support. This gives the essay a coherent progression. However, some links are mechanical or unclear. For example, “Another advantage of this is money” does not clearly state the relationship between the point and the explanation, and “An example of this” is followed by a sentence fragment. The conclusion’s “While some seem to disagree.” is also separated from the sentence it introduces. Use more precise referencing and connect each example directly to its claim; this would make cohesion smoother and less formulaic.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough vocabulary to discuss saving and financial security, including “source of income,” “financial back-up plan,” “budget,” and “investing.” These choices communicate the main ideas, and you attempt some topic-specific language. However, spelling errors and imprecise or unnatural combinations are noticeable, which limits the accuracy and flexibility of the vocabulary. Examples include “essencial,” “perposes,” “unneccesary,” “keeing,” “emergancy,” and “surgury.” Phrases such as “money in the case of emergency” and “future days” are understandable but not idiomatic. Check spelling carefully and learn common collocations for financial topics. More precise phrasing would help you express ideas naturally without changing their meaning.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including a concessive opening (“While some believe…”) and a conditional example (“if a person got involved in an accident, they would have money…”). Most of the argument remains understandable, which is consistent with this level of control. Some grammatical errors persist, however. “This is not only because …, but they are also optimistic” has an unbalanced construction; “some think the money they will earn the same amount” is missing a grammatical link; and “An example of this, if a person…” is a sentence fragment. The conclusion also uses a full stop where the contrast should continue: “While some seem to disagree.” Practise complete sentence structures, parallel clauses, and punctuation around dependent clauses.
