Student answer (Band 6.5)

It is often argued that saving money is really important and everyone should save money for their future, including young individuals. I strongly agree with this view because saving money has several benefits, such as it can be used in emergency situations and for purchasing anything in the future.

One of the major benefits of saving money is having a secure future, and this money can be used in different situations. For instance, if someone needs to buy a house for himself, he can save money and later use it to purchase a home. In contrast, if there are no savings, individuals might face several problems, such as emergencies. For instance, car accidents and different kinds of bills, including healthcare, education, and electricity bills. These bills sometimes cannot be paid with a regular income alone, but having a backup can help in these situations. Therefore, people should save some amount of their income, which might be helpful in difficult situations.

Another significant advantage of saving is that it enables individuals to fulfil their ambitions. Many life goals, such as higher studies, starting a business, and purchasing a home, need a significant amount of money, and saving money can fulfil those dreams. Moreover, it can be useful for going abroad for studies. For instance, a person wants to pursue his goals and wants to study abroad, which can be really expensive, and without any backup, that is not possible. However, he can use his savings to achieve his goals in the future. Therefore, I believe that saving money has several benefits in the long term.

In conclusion, it is crucial for everyone to save money for their future, regardless of their age, and I strongly agree with this view because saving money can be beneficial in unexpected situations and for achieving goals.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

Your position is clear from the introduction to the conclusion: you strongly agree that everyone, including young people, should save. You address the main reasons with relevant examples, including unexpected costs such as healthcare bills and longer-term aims such as studying abroad or starting a business. These ideas are extended enough to support your view, although some points remain general. For example, the house-purchase example is repeated in both body paragraphs, and the discussion of young people could explain more specifically why saving is important for them, such as building financial independence early. To strengthen the response further, develop each example with a clearer explanation of its consequences and avoid relying on broad claims such as savings being useful for “anything in the future.”

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The response has a clear overall progression: the introduction states your view, each body paragraph presents a distinct benefit, and the conclusion restates your position. Paragraphing is appropriate, and signposts such as “For instance,” “Moreover,” and “Therefore” help readers follow the argument. The links are generally clear, though some transitions feel repetitive or mechanical, particularly the repeated use of “For instance” and “Therefore.” The second paragraph also moves from emergencies to a house purchase and then back to emergencies, which slightly weakens the sequence. Grouping the examples more deliberately and using a wider range of referencing—for example, “such a financial reserve”—would make the connections smoother and less dependent on repeated linking phrases.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use adequate vocabulary to explain the topic, including “secure future,” “emergency situations,” “significant amount,” and “fulfil their ambitions.” These choices communicate the main ideas clearly, and there are some attempts at more specific language, such as “healthcare” and “pursue his goals.” However, several words and phrases are repeated, especially “saving money,” “future,” and “benefits,” which limits flexibility. Some collocations are also imprecise: “purchasing anything in the future” is too broad, and “a backup” is less natural here than a phrase such as “financial reserve.” Aim to use more precise topic vocabulary and vary repeated expressions while checking that combinations of words sound natural.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including conditional structures such as “if someone needs to buy a house… he can save money” and clauses introduced by “because,” “which,” and “although.” Most sentences are understandable, and errors do not prevent the reader from following your argument. Some grammatical issues remain, however. The fragment “For instance, car accidents and different kinds of bills…” is not a complete sentence; connect it to the preceding sentence. In “a person wants to pursue his goals,” the sentence needs a clearer structure, such as “For instance, if a person wants to pursue their goals…” Also check article use and sentence boundaries when adding examples. Greater control of these structures would make the writing more consistently accurate.
