To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Saving money plays an important role in people lives in the future as well as in the present. Some people contend that everyone, including youngster should save money to be spent in the future. I firly agree with this idea because saving money can give security in the face of uncertainity in the future and ensures financial growth by starting a new business.
Firstly, saving money in the present can help a person in the future especially when faced with uncertain situation. When one face a loss in business or experience a difficult situation as a result of economic disruption, saving plays a crucial role in that situations. For instance, many people lost their jobs because of corona pandemic and consequently faced economic losses. Therefore, people should save money as far as possible because saving is necessary to overcome difficulties that will arise in the future.
Secondly, saving money can help in starting a new business in the future. A start-up require a lot of finances besides other things such as land, labour and management. For example, launching a new product would need massive level of marketing which is possible only when heavy finances are available. Therefore, it is understandable when someone says that saved money can leads to financial growth.
Admittedly, there is always an upportunity attached to saving money. To save money for the future purposes, one must have to sacrifice alot in the current situation.
In conclusion, as financial growth and financial security in the future can be brought by saving money in the present, I firmly support the idea of saving money. Therefore, it is imperative for everyone to save specifically youngsters to save money for the future.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
Your position is clear from the introduction (“I firmly agree”) and remains consistent in the conclusion. You give two relevant reasons: savings can provide security during economic hardship and help fund a business. The pandemic example supports the first point, while the start-up and marketing example illustrates the second. However, the discussion is unevenly developed: the business paragraph explains the need for finance, but does not show clearly how saving is especially important for young people or how they can balance saving with present needs. The concession about sacrificing “a lot” is also introduced but not explained or weighed against your position. Develop this counterpoint and connect your examples more directly to the claim about everyone, including young people, to make the response more complete and persuasive.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a clear overall structure, with an introduction, two supporting paragraphs, a brief concession, and a conclusion. Sequencing phrases such as “Firstly,” “Secondly,” and “In conclusion” make the progression easy to follow. The main weakness is that cohesion is sometimes mechanical, as several sentences begin with “Therefore,” and the final paragraph repeats the central claim rather than drawing the reasons together. Some references are also unclear: “that situations” does not point smoothly to the difficulties just mentioned, and “there is always an opportunity attached to saving money” does not clearly introduce the intended drawback. Use more varied links and make the relationship between the concession and your argument explicit.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a relevant range of vocabulary for the topic, including “economic disruption,” “financial security,” “start-up,” and “financial growth.” These choices help communicate the main ideas, and the meaning is generally understandable. However, several spelling and word-choice errors reduce precision, including “firly,” “uncertainity,” “upportunity,” and “alot.” Some combinations are also unnatural, such as “massive level of marketing” and “an opportunity attached to saving money.” Aim for accurate spelling and more natural collocations, and choose wording that expresses the intended meaning directly. For example, the concession appears to mean that saving involves sacrifices in the present; stating this plainly would make your vocabulary more precise and your argument easier to follow.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including a conditional clause (“When one face a loss…”) and a reason clause (“because saving money can give security…”). Most sentences remain understandable, but some grammatical errors occur in agreement, articles, and verb forms. Examples include “people lives,” “everyone, including youngster,” “When one face,” “A start-up require,” and “saved money can leads.” The sentence “one must have to sacrifice” also combines two modal constructions unnecessarily. Review subject–verb agreement, singular and plural forms, and modal patterns. More accurate control of these structures, alongside your existing attempts at complex sentences, would make the argument smoother without changing its meaning.
