Student answer (Band 6.5)

While some people believe that young people do not need to save money, I firmly believe it is very important for them to save money for their future convenience.

A key reason for my this view is that when youngsters will have passion to save money, they will get to know how difficult it is to save money because you would have to cut your extra expenses like clubbing and betting. As a result, they would understand the worth of money and due to this they would be able to away from bad activities like consuming drugs. Then, they will work more harder in future to earn money to save more and higher amount of saving would make the youngster more motivated.

Another reason I support this idea is that when youth will save money, they would have more money in backup. Therefore, in future if they will face any financial problem like loss in business or job, they would be capable enough to fulfill their basic needs like food, clothes etc. This would also help them to aviod taking loans which is an extra expense due to the monthly payment of interest.

On the other hand, some people argue that young people should not save money as it would lead to stress because when they will try to save more, they would become greedy and stop enjoying. For example, they would stop spending on good food, concerts or on travelling which will make their life more depressing. As they would have to earn money in their entire life so they should enjoy this youngster life by sending more.

To sum up, the benefits of saving far outweigh the drawbacks. Saving money will provide financial freedom in long term as they can invest that money in stocks or assets which might make their saving more useful. Moreover, they can also feel less burden during the period of recession or losses.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

Your position is clear from the opening: you firmly support saving, and the conclusion restates that its benefits outweigh the drawbacks. You address both sides by explaining financial security and responding to the concern that saving may reduce enjoyment. The examples of job loss, business difficulties and avoiding interest-bearing loans are relevant and help extend your main argument. However, the point that saving will keep young people away from drugs, and the claim that it will make them work harder, are asserted rather than convincingly explained. The opposing view is also less developed than your supporting case. To strengthen the response, explain the links between each reason and your position more carefully, and use a specific example to support one of the broader claims.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, two paragraphs supporting saving, a paragraph presenting a counterargument, and a conclusion. The progression from learning the value of money to having a financial safety net is easy to follow, and signposts such as “Another reason,” “On the other hand” and “To sum up” make the stages explicit. This gives the essay a coherent arrangement, while the repeated use of “when,” “As a result” and “Therefore” can make connections feel mechanical. Some references are also unclear, particularly “this youngster life,” and the final sentence of the counterargument does not connect smoothly to the preceding example. Use a wider range of linking methods and make each paragraph’s internal progression more explicit.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range to discuss personal finance, including “financial problem,” “basic needs,” “monthly payment of interest,” “financial freedom” and “recession.” These terms help communicate the main ideas, and the meaning is generally clear. There are, however, several inaccurate or unnatural choices that limit precision: “future convenience,” “more money in backup,” “higher amount of saving” and “enjoy this youngster life by sending more.” Spelling errors such as “aviod” also occur. Aim for more natural collocations and check word forms and spelling; for example, describe savings as a “financial safety net” and say that young people should “spend more” if that is your intended meaning. More precise phrasing would make the argument sound more fluent and controlled.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including conditional clauses such as “if they will face any financial problem” and subordinate clauses beginning with “when” and “because.” This shows an effort to express relationships between ideas, and the overall meaning is usually recoverable. However, some errors in verb forms and sentence construction remain. For example, “when youngsters will have passion” and “if they will face” use an unsuitable future form after these time and conditional clauses; “they would be able to away” is missing a verb; and “work more harder” has an incorrect comparative construction. There are also awkward shifts between “they” and “you.” Practise accurate conditional patterns and review each sentence for a complete verb phrase and consistent subject reference.
