Student answer (Band 6.0)

With the growing prevalence of social media, today's generation have a fond of flexing their lifestyle in public and to show off their luxury they tend to spend more. This lead us to a major problem of savings, as people more towards spending and especially immature ones. I strongly stand with the statement that it is important for everyone to say money for their future because future is uncertain and savings help them to avoid unthinkable problems.

Today, in this ostentatious world, everyone wants to show off their wealth and also there is a significant shift towards mindset of "live freely and enjoy the moments". This resulted spending more money then what millennium were spent. Therefore, we can observed that people including younger ones' face financial crisis and unable to meet the daily requirements sometime. For instance, according to one survey, People spend their 40% to 45% of their income on unnecessary things like buying excessive clothes and other fancy things whereas they find problems in saving money. Saving money is necessary because to achieve some of basic requirements and also helps in smooth future plans like owning house, child's education, etc.

In addition to that, life is unpredictable and it is hard to say what is coming next, so in unthinkable incidences this saved money will help them to avoid major financial issues. For example, problem like some medical emergency, it will help them to meet the bills of nowadays costly medication.

In my opinion, it is necessary to save money for everyone despite of any age, to make their future secure and smoothly avoid any cautious circumstances.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear from the introduction: you strongly agree that everyone should save because the future is uncertain. You address both general financial planning and unexpected costs, with relevant examples such as housing, a child’s education and medical bills. This covers the task well. However, some points are asserted rather than fully explained: the discussion of social-media-driven spending and the survey statistic do not clearly show why saving is important for young people in particular, and the statistic is not developed or contextualised. To strengthen the response, explain how saving supports independence or long-term goals for younger people, and extend one or two examples with a clear link to your argument. The position is consistent, but the support is not equally developed throughout.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion. The ideas progress from spending habits to planned goals and then emergency savings, and linking phrases such as “Therefore,” “In addition to that” and “For example” help signal relationships. This gives the essay an overall coherent arrangement. At times, however, connections feel mechanical or unclear. For instance, “This resulted spending more money” does not clearly connect the preceding idea to its consequence, while the final paragraph largely repeats the position without drawing together the main reasons. Improve progression by making each paragraph’s central point explicit, using references such as “this habit” only when the referent is clear, and varying transitions rather than relying on formulaic connectors.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range for the topic and attempt less common expressions, including “ostentatious,” “financial crisis,” “unpredictable” and “medical emergency.” These choices show an effort to discuss spending and future security precisely, and the main meaning remains understandable. Some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, however: “have a fond of flexing,” “people more towards spending,” “unthinkable incidences” and “smoothly avoid any cautious circumstances” do not express the intended ideas naturally. There are also imprecise phrases such as “fancy things” and “major problem of savings.” Aim for common, accurate collocations before choosing more elaborate vocabulary—for example, describe people as “inclined to spend” and refer to “unexpected emergencies.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including a reason clause with “because” and a conditional-style example about medical emergencies. The overall meaning is usually recoverable, but some grammatical errors remain and occasionally make relationships difficult to follow. Examples include “today’s generation have,” “This lead us,” “we can observed,” and “This resulted spending,” which show problems with agreement, verb forms and sentence construction. Articles and sentence boundaries also need attention, as in “achieve some of basic requirements” and the long opening sentence, where several ideas are joined awkwardly. Practise checking subject–verb agreement and verb patterns, and divide sentences when they contain several linked claims. More accurate control of these structures would make your argument easier to read.
