To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is widely believed that it is essential for everyone, including young people, to save money for their future. I firmly agree with this viewpoint because saving means you will secure your future, and also you will enjoy your luxurious life.

Although it is important for everyone to save money, young people's savings play an important role in the future. Saving money will help to get better education and fulfill their wishes. For example, wealthy students will get admission to ranked universities after completing their college, but students who belong to low-income families need to start part-time jobs and save their money to fulfill their same wishes. Some people save money to start a business in the future for daily earning purposes. So saving money opens many opportunities for us in the future.

While, on the other hand, people who disagree with this statement that saving money is not necessary. People enjoy their time spending money to explore food, for shopping, and to buy extra clothes without taking the tension of what will happen in the future. Mostly people and youngsters believe that enjoy your present because they say that who can see the future? But such kind of person really struggel in their future with zero bank account, and feel jelous to see when others enjoy their life and follow the proper way to save money.

In conclusion, i personally agree with the idea of saving money, because saving is caring. the evidence clearly support my position although without saving people spend good life but with saving, you also secure your future, not only for you but also for your next generation.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear from the opening: “I firmly agree,” and the conclusion returns to the importance of saving. You address the prompt with relevant reasons, especially education, fulfilling goals, starting a business, and being prepared for later life. The comparison between students from wealthy and low-income families is a useful example. However, some points are asserted rather than fully explained: the claim that saving lets people “enjoy your luxurious life” is not developed, and the opposing view about enjoying the present is described more than examined. To strengthen the response, explain how saving leads to specific future benefits and respond more directly to the trade-off between saving and spending now. The position and relevant support are established, but development is uneven.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs presenting different perspectives, and a conclusion. The main ideas are generally understandable, and phrases such as “For example” and “In conclusion” help signal stages of the argument. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes difficult to follow. The second body paragraph begins “While, on the other hand,” which combines linking expressions awkwardly, and several ideas are joined in long sentences without clear relationships. Repeated use of “saving money” and “future” also makes the links feel mechanical. Organise each paragraph around one central point, use clearer transitions between the opposing view and your rebuttal, and make references such as “such kind of person” more precise.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate your main ideas, including “low-income families,” “part-time jobs,” “opportunities,” and “secure your future.” There are also attempts at more expressive phrasing, such as “saving is caring.” However, the range is limited by repeated general words such as “money,” “future,” and “enjoy,” and some combinations are unnatural or imprecise: “fulfill their same wishes,” “daily earning purposes,” and “taking the tension” do not express the intended ideas naturally. Spelling errors such as “struggel” and “jelous” also affect accuracy. Build a more precise range for discussing financial planning and use collocations such as “meet their goals,” “earn a living,” and “worry about the future.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a contrast between wealthy and low-income students and a concluding sentence with “not only…but also.” Most of the meaning remains understandable, but some grammatical errors and punctuation problems make parts less smooth. For example, “While, on the other hand, people who disagree…” is an incomplete and awkwardly connected clause, while “people … believe that enjoy your present” is missing a grammatical subject structure. In the conclusion, “i personally agree” needs a capital letter, and “the evidence clearly support” has subject–verb disagreement. Practise forming complete clauses after linking words, checking agreement and verb patterns, and dividing long sentences where needed.
