Student answer (Band 6.5)
In today's world, money has become one of the most important factors in comfortable life. Hence, it is widely argued that all human beings should be saving their money for future use. From my point of view, I firmly believe that saving money is a primary source of happiness that you could get financially. However, excessive way of doing it could end up fruitless.
To begin with, I am convinced that, by keeping a certain amount of money in hand, you could end up with a house or a car later in life. Not only that, but it could also be a way of being ready for a future that you can't predict such as the era where most people get fired due to technology improvements. For instance, there is a study from Myanmar that shows a number of families who have saved money before 2020 has ended up being one of the wealthiest families after 2022 due to covid-19 pandemic.
Nevertheless, it is important to know that saving money is not always a solution to financial problems that we are facing these days. If you excessively save money for future yet you don't make a lot of money in the present, you will only lose the quality of life. For example, you could have been sad because a toy can't be bought since you were skimping at the age of 10, however, you wouldn't want the same toy 10 years later and you lost the happiness in younger days. In worse cases, you could even die before you use the budget.
In conclusion, it is fairly important to create present happiness and better future equally since it could be advantageous to prepare for further future yet it could have harm the present days of your life.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
Your position is clear: you support saving for the future but argue that excessive saving can damage present well-being. You address both sides and give relevant examples, including unemployment caused by technological change and the child who misses out on a toy. This meets the task well, and the examples show an effort to explain your reasoning. However, some support is less fully developed: the Myanmar study is presented as a broad claim without explaining its source or how saving led to wealth, while the toy example illustrates short-term sacrifice more clearly than the importance of saving for everyone. To strengthen the response further, explain the examples more precisely and connect each one directly to your overall position.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The essay has a clear overall progression: an introduction states your view, two body paragraphs present benefits and drawbacks, and the conclusion restates the need for balance. Paragraphing is appropriate, and transitions such as “To begin with,” “Nevertheless,” and “In conclusion” help readers follow the argument. You also use linking structures such as “Not only that, but…” effectively. At times, however, the links feel somewhat formulaic, and some references are not fully clear—for example, “it” in “it could also be a way of being ready” has a broad antecedent. The conclusion introduces “present happiness and better future equally” without clearly summarising the specific reasoning. Use more precise references and make the final paragraph synthesize the two main points.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary to discuss financial security and quality of life, including “financial problems,” “quality of life,” and “wealthiest families.” There are also attempts at more specific expressions, such as “technology improvements” and “skimping,” which show a willingness to vary your wording. Some choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, however: “comfortable life,” “saving their money,” “further future,” and “create present happiness” do not express the ideas as naturally as they could. “Fruitless” is also not quite the right word for the consequences of excessive saving. Aim for more precise collocations and check whether each word fits the intended meaning; this will make your argument sound clearer and more fluent.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex structures, including the conditional “If you excessively save money…” and the “Not only…but also” construction. Most sentences remain understandable, and the grammar errors do not generally prevent the reader from following your argument. Some errors occur in verb forms, articles, and sentence construction. For example, “a study…that shows a number of families…has ended up” has a mismatch between the plural subject and verb, while “it could have harm the present days” uses an incorrect verb form. “In comfortable life” also needs an article or a different construction. Review subject–verb agreement and modal verb patterns, and proofread longer sentences to improve accuracy while retaining your range of structures.
