IELTS Writing Task 2 question
It is important for everyone, including young people, to save money for their future.
To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
The statement provides a rationale logic that everyone including young people should save money for their future. The importance of saving money is logical in my perpective.
Saving money for future has different aspect of views from different perspectives. Some thought there is no future for spending their own money and spend their whole in whatever they want to have at present. On the other hand, some others thought much for future without spending much money at present and also live like a miser.
Saving money is important for a secured life in future but present is also important to have much priorities. So there should be a balanced term where present can be beautiful and future can be secured too. Neither spending extra costs nor living a miserable life would be the best fit for everyone.
But at this point, family person or older one can agree with this statement but it should be applicable for younger one too. If the boy or girl can save money and make a balance in their life at very young age, they can easily lead a happier and solvent life even though they face any problems ahead. If a family with a balanced mentality then they all can handle any situation easily.
Saving money is kind of self insurance. As like ants; they do not know about their life and death, but still they earn and store food for upcoming winter. So, I strongly agree with the term that it is important to everyone to save money for securing their future.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
Your position is clear: you strongly agree that saving is important, while recognising that people should also enjoy the present. This balanced view responds to the question, and the discussion of young people learning to manage money is relevant. The ant comparison also gives the conclusion a memorable illustration. These features show a developed response, but some ideas are only partly explained. For example, the claim that young people can lead a “happier and solvent life” is not supported with a specific situation or explanation of how saving helps them. The contrast between spenders and misers is also broad. To strengthen the response further, develop one or two reasons with concrete examples, such as saving for education or unexpected expenses.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable overall structure: it introduces the issue, considers different attitudes to spending, presents a balanced view, focuses on young people, and concludes with your position. Paragraphing helps separate these stages. However, progression within some paragraphs is less clear, and connections can feel mechanical. For instance, “But at this point” does not clearly signal the shift to young people, while “If a family with a balanced mentality then…” is difficult to connect to the preceding point. Some references, such as “some others” and “this statement,” are also broad. Use clearer topic sentences and explicit links between each reason and its supporting example to make the argument easier to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use some relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “secured life,” “balanced,” “miser,” and “self insurance,” and the ant image adds variety. However, the range is uneven, with several noticeable word-choice and collocation problems that sometimes make the meaning less natural. Examples include “a rationale logic,” “different aspect of views,” “spend their whole,” and “balanced term.” “Solvent life” is also an unusual choice for describing personal financial security. These issues fit a response with a limited but usable range: your meaning is generally recoverable, but phrasing is not consistently precise. Build accuracy by learning common word partnerships for saving, spending, financial security, and future planning.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including contrastive structures such as “Neither spending extra costs nor living a miserable life…” and a conditional sentence about young people saving. The main ideas are usually understandable, but grammatical control is inconsistent. For example, “Saving money for future has…” needs an article, and “Some thought there is no future…” shifts awkwardly between past and present forms. The sentence beginning “If a family with a balanced mentality…” is incomplete because it lacks a main clause structure, while “they face any problems” needs a more suitable conditional form. Work on articles, complete conditional sentences, and consistent verb forms; these corrections would make your varied sentence attempts clearer and more reliable.
