Student answer (Band 5.5)

Saving money has become a habit in people's lives, regardless of their age group, to support their next steps in life. This essay will discuss whether individuals including young ones should follow this phenomenon.

On one side, the current economical state of the world forces people, especially teenagers and young adults, to question their spending. It is becoming more difficult to find a job or to earn money, so every penny is valuable and has to be spent wisely or saved for an important event. Because the economy of a nation depends mostly on its political state and its international ecosystem, so everyone must be cautious while spending. For example, in many countries, such as the USA or Canada, basic human needs like healthcare or education are very expensive. And a lot of people have hundreds of thousands of debts due to student loans and hospital bills. These individuals must put some money aside, to afford the unexpected events that can occur during one's life, especially if they have a family to feed.

On the other side, people should allow themselves to be loose and to enjoy life's pleasures. They can not deprive themselves from everything and live on a low budget because of the possibilty of an expensive event occuring. Especially young people, who already don't start their journey with a lot of money. They can enjoy their first paychecks and spend them on fun things they wanted their whole lives, because they don't have a lot of responsibilities at this age and can allow themselves recklessness.

In conclusion, even though it is important to save money due to the unexpectedness and the fluctuation of the economic state of the globe, saving money depends on one's age and his responsibilities at that stage of life.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You discuss both the need to save and the value of enjoying money, and your examples of healthcare costs, student loans and family responsibilities are relevant. However, the task asks how far you agree or disagree, and your position remains unclear: the introduction says the essay will discuss the issue, while the conclusion says saving depends on age and responsibilities without stating whether you agree overall. The argument is also unevenly developed. The case for saving has several reasons and examples, but the opposing view is asserted rather than explained in depth; for instance, the claim that young people can be “reckless” is not connected to a clear limit or consequence. State your degree of agreement directly and support both sides more fully.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, two contrasting body paragraphs and a conclusion. The signposts “On one side,” “On the other side” and “In conclusion” make the broad direction easy to follow. However, progression within sentences and between ideas is sometimes mechanical or unclear. In “Because the economy …, so everyone must be cautious,” the paired connectors make the relationship awkward, and the opening paragraph does not establish a clear position for the discussion. Some references are also imprecise: “these individuals” could refer to people with debt or to people generally. To improve, make the central position explicit early, use transitions that show the exact relationship between points, and ensure each paragraph develops one main idea in a clear sequence.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a relevant range of vocabulary, including “political state,” “student loans,” “unexpected events” and “responsibilities,” which helps communicate the topic. There are also attempts at more specific phrasing, such as “international ecosystem,” though this is not a natural expression in this context. Several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or informal, including “current economical state,” “be loose,” “deprive themselves from” and “allow themselves recklessness.” Spelling errors such as “possibilty” and “occuring” also reduce accuracy. These issues do not prevent the reader from understanding the main points, but they limit precision. Aim for natural collocations and check spelling; for example, use “economic conditions,” “relax their saving habits” and “deprive themselves of.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex structures, including a conditional clause in “if they have a family to feed” and a concession in the conclusion. Meaning is generally understandable, but some sentence structures and punctuation are inaccurate. In “Because the economy …, so everyone must be cautious,” do not use “because” and “so” together in this construction. “They can not deprive themselves from everything” also has an incorrect grammatical pattern: the verb takes “of,” not “from.” The sentence beginning “Especially young people” is a fragment, and “who already don't start their journey” is awkwardly attached to it. Practise building complete sentences around introductory phrases and review clause connections, prepositions within verb patterns, and punctuation.
