IELTS Writing Task 2 question
It is important for everyone, including young people, to save money for their future.
To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 5.5)
It is essential for everyone to save money for their future, simultaneously younger children should also secure money. I agree, with the statement because if adults and younger children will start to save money in their bank accounts or in their piggy banks it will be really helpful and beneficial for them if they face any problems in the future. If they understand the value of money and also note down their expenses, then they have an idea about spending and securing money.
Firstly, savings is really important for the future, people should avoid unnecessary expenses especially younger children such as, spending large sums of money to buy iphone and changing their iphone almost every year. This behaviour among younger children must prevent to avoid unnecessary stress and anxiety. If their phones are broken and may have some major problems such as phone screen is not working, also sometimes in iphones we should buy an subscription plabn to use or to download any app. Younger children should avoid these types of things, instead of that they should concentrate on their savings.
Secondly, there are so many advantages to save the money for the future. First of all, people can use their savings if they have an emergency at the hospitals. Second of all, if they want to enroll in activities such as, if they need money to access GYM or sometimes they want to help others they can easily spend thier savings on that things. If people maintain their expenses and try to secure the money in case of any accidents. Lastly, saving money is beneficial.
In conclusion, many people believe that savings is really important for the future. I agree, with the statement because securing money is helpful in manyways, instead of spending on the unnece

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
Your position is clear: you agree that adults and young people should save, and you give relevant reasons, including preparing for emergencies and avoiding unnecessary spending on phones. These examples show an understanding of the topic. However, the response only partly develops the argument. The phone example focuses heavily on one purchase, while the benefits of saving are listed rather than explained—for instance, hospital costs and helping others are mentioned without showing how savings make these situations manageable. The conclusion also ends abruptly and does not fully summarise your reasoning. To strengthen the response, explain each main reason with a clear cause-and-effect link and develop at least one specific example of how saving benefits young people in the longer term.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion. “Firstly,” “Secondly,” and “In conclusion” help signal the stages of your argument, and the paragraphs generally stay on the topic of saving. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes unclear: the first body paragraph moves from phone purchases to broken screens and app subscriptions without clearly connecting these points to a central explanation. The second paragraph relies on a list—“First of all,” “Second of all,” and “Lastly”—rather than developing a sequence of ideas. Some links are also awkward or repetitive. Organise each body paragraph around one main reason, then explain and illustrate it, using linking phrases only where they clarify the relationship between ideas.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use relevant topic vocabulary such as “savings,” “expenses,” “emergency,” and “anxiety,” so the reader can follow the general subject. However, the range is limited and several words or phrases are repeated, particularly “save money,” “future,” and “helpful.” Some choices are inaccurate or unnatural, including “secure money,” “spending large sums of money to buy iphone,” and “an subscription plabn.” Spelling errors such as “thier,” “manyways,” and “unnece” also reduce precision, while the unfinished final phrase makes the meaning incomplete. Build a wider set of natural collocations for personal finance, and check spelling and word forms carefully. For example, use “set money aside” or “build savings” instead of repeatedly using “secure money.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and longer sentences, including conditional structures such as “If they understand the value of money…” and “If people maintain their expenses…”. However, complex sentences are often faulty, and errors occur frequently enough to make some passages difficult to follow. For example, “I agree, with the statement because if adults and younger children will start to save” has incorrect punctuation and an unsuitable verb form after “if.” The sentence beginning “If their phones are broken and may have some major problems” is incomplete, and “This behaviour … must prevent” lacks a correctly formed passive construction. There are also problems with articles, agreement and sentence boundaries. Practise forming complete sentences with one clear main clause, then check verb forms and punctuation, especially in conditional sentences.
