IELTS Writing Task 2 question

It is important for everyone, including young people, to save money for their future.

To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Student answer (Band 5.5)

Nowadays, the issue of saving money for their future has become increasingly important in modern society. I completely agree with this statement because of several significant reasons.

To begin with, one of the main reasons is saving money provides financial support. For instance, if a person needs any sudden financial support he can use the money that he saved from months. For example, if a person in a family unfortunately met with an accident and for treatment it costs more than his usual expenses, in this kind of situations the money that you saved gives you support. This is mainly because you dont need to depend on others in such circumstances for money, instead you can use your own money which you saved.

secondly, everyone has to save money for their future because we know that many people has many dreams like buying new home, car, bike etc. so, saving money day by day helps them in future to fullfill their dreams. In addition, young people like who are earning money in their intial months, spend most of money uselessly, instead if they have save that money, that will help them in their future when they have to face any sudden issues with their working organisations or even in many other circumstances. Therefore this further strengthens the statement is true.

In conclusion, I strongly agree with the given statemnet because it provides financial support and helps to fullfill their dreams. Therefore, I strongly believe that it is very imporrtant for everyone, including young people, to save money for their future.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

Your position is clear from the introduction and conclusion: you completely agree that everyone, including young people, should save. You give relevant reasons—emergency expenses and achieving goals such as buying a home or a vehicle—and the accident example helps illustrate the first point. However, both reasons are only briefly developed, and the discussion of young earners facing problems at work is unclear and not fully explained. The response also contains 247 words, so it is three words below the required minimum; this limits the space available to develop your ideas. To strengthen the response, explain each reason more fully and make the link between saving and future security explicit.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion. Sequencing phrases such as “To begin with,” “secondly,” and “In conclusion” help signal the main stages. However, progression within the body paragraphs is sometimes repetitive: the first paragraph gives several versions of the same emergency-support point, while the second moves from buying possessions to workplace problems without a clear connection. Some linking expressions, including “Therefore this further strengthens the statement is true,” are awkward and do not clearly show the relationship between ideas. Use fewer repeated examples, organise each paragraph around one main reason, and connect supporting details directly to that reason.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “financial support,” “sudden,” “circumstances,” and “dreams.” However, the range is limited and several words or phrases are repeated, particularly “money,” “future,” and “support.” Some choices are imprecise or unnatural, such as “money that he saved from months,” “spend most of money uselessly,” and “fullfill their dreams.” Spelling errors such as “intial,” “statemnet,” and “imporrtant” also reduce accuracy. Aim for more precise collocations and check spelling carefully; for example, describe money saved “over several months” and say that people “achieve their goals.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more extended sentences, including conditional structures such as “if a person needs any sudden financial support he can use the money.” The overall meaning is usually understandable, but errors in agreement, verb forms, articles and sentence boundaries occur regularly. Examples include “many people has many dreams,” “if they have save that money,” and the run-on construction beginning “if a person in a family unfortunately met with an accident.” Capitalisation and punctuation are also inconsistent, particularly at the start of “secondly” and around lists. Practise accurate conditional sentences and past-tense forms, and divide long sentences into shorter units with clear punctuation.
