Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You identify the two chart topics and report some accurate location figures, including private studios at 48% and college-based studios at 10%. However, the response only minimally covers the age-group chart: it mentions under-11 ballet at about 600, but omits the other five dance-and-age figures and gives no meaningful comparisons. The overview is also inaccurate: modern is not the largest class overall, since the combined ballet total is higher; modern is the most popular only among 11–16-year-olds. The location comparison is confused too: 18% is lower, not higher, than the 24% for school halls. To improve, give a clear overview of the main contrasts and select representative figures from both charts accurately.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a basic paragraph structure: an introduction and overview, a paragraph about locations, and a final paragraph beginning to discuss class types. Linking expressions such as “Overall,” “Although,” and “Furthermore” show an attempt to connect ideas. However, progression is limited because the final paragraph stops after one data point, leaving the second chart largely unreported. Some connections are also confusing: “Although” introduces a comparison that is not clearly completed, and “However” does not establish a logical contrast with the preceding point. Organise the body into clear sections for location and age-group comparisons, and use linking words only where the relationship between the facts is clear.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some task-related vocabulary, including “pie chart,” “private studios,” “college-based studios,” and “age group,” so the topic is generally recognisable. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations make the meaning awkward, such as “more famous place,” “last lowest number,” and “strength of the students.” Spelling errors including “tow,” “shools,” “joing,” and “strenght” also reduce accuracy. Aim for precise chart language rather than conversational or unclear descriptions: for example, describe a location as the “most common venue” and student figures as “numbers” or “totals.” Check spelling carefully and avoid repeating “dance classes” when a more specific label is available.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a sentence beginning “Although” and one using “where,” but control is inconsistent. Agreement errors appear in “the majority … is” and “college-based studios is”; the opening overview also has an unclear comparison structure in “is first highest number than the others.” Articles, plurals, and sentence construction need attention, as in “more famous place” and “other location … is contributing.” There is also an unnecessary space before the full stop after “Australia.” These errors sometimes make relationships between figures difficult to follow. Practise building accurate comparison sentences, such as “Private studios account for the largest share, at 48%, while college-based studios make up 10%.”
