Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify the two chart topics and report several location percentages accurately, including private studios at 48%, school halls at 24%, and college-based studios at 10%. However, the response only partly summarises the information: the overview focuses on locations and does not clearly capture the main contrast in dance preferences by age. Some figures and comparisons are inaccurate or unclear. For example, ballet is 600 for under-11s and 300 for 11–16s, not 700; modern is 300 and 520 respectively, while tap is 450 and 420, so the groups do not have the “same amount.” To improve, give a concise overview of the key patterns, then compare all three dance styles using the chart’s approximate values.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a basic paragraph structure: an introduction, a general overview, a paragraph about locations, and a final paragraph about dance types. This gives the reader some sense of the chart’s two sections. However, progression within paragraphs is often difficult to follow, and the location information is repeated in the overview and again in the next paragraph. Linking phrases such as “On the first hand” and “Finally” do not consistently clarify the relationships between points, while several long sentences join multiple ideas without clear boundaries. Organise the report into a clear overview followed by focused comparisons, and use linking words only where they show a genuine contrast or sequence.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant chart vocabulary, including “proportion,” “private studios,” “school halls,” and “college-based studios,” so the topic is generally recognisable. However, word choice and collocation are often inaccurate or repetitive, which sometimes makes the meaning hard to interpret. Phrases such as “the proportion of percentage,” “looking for a place,” and “continued is College-based studios” do not express the intended information naturally. There are also spelling errors, including “Aong” and “aarive,” and repeated use of “people” where “students” would be more precise. Build a small set of accurate reporting phrases for proportions, rankings, and comparisons, and check spelling and word forms carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response attempts both simple and longer sentence forms, and it uses some clauses to connect information. However, complex sentences are frequently faulty, and errors in agreement, verb forms, articles, and punctuation can make the message difficult to follow. For instance, “there are a lot of young adult are seeing” combines incompatible structures, while “where it is currently attending” has an unclear subject and verb form. Commas are also often placed before “while” without a complete sentence structure, and spacing after punctuation is inconsistent. Practise writing short, complete sentences first, then combine related comparisons with accurate clauses such as “whereas” or “while.”
