Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You identify the two chart topics and report several relevant figures, including private studios at 48%, college-based studios at 10%, and the under-11 ballet figure of 600. However, the response only partially covers the task: it gives no figures or comparisons for the 11–16 group, and the location figures for community halls and school halls are reversed (the chart shows 18% and 24%, respectively). The overview is also unclear and includes an unsupported claim that ballet is the most popular overall, although this is true only for the younger group. The response is 139 words, below the required 150; the 13 words copied from the prompt are not counted. Add a clear overview and compare both age groups accurately.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a basic structure: an introduction, a brief overview, and separate paragraphs for the pie chart and bar chart. Phrases such as “In terms of pie chart” and “Regarding the remaining bar chart” help signal the shift between visuals. However, progression within the bar-chart paragraph is difficult to follow: the under-11 figures are repeated, and the final sentence repeats the modern-dance figure rather than developing a comparison with the 11–16 group. Some linking is mechanical, and punctuation spacing makes several ideas run together. Organise the body by chart or age group, avoid repeating data, and use clear comparisons to guide the reader through the information.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “percentage,” “proportion,” “private studios,” and “bar chart,” so the topic is generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, such as “the percentage of dance classes are held on private studios” and “students likes to join.” There are also spelling errors, including “proportation,” “nuber,” and “mordern,” which reduce precision. Repeated use of “join” and “love to join” is informal and does not describe chart data naturally. Aim for accurate reporting verbs and phrases such as “accounted for,” “attended,” and “the number of students taking classes,” while checking spelling and collocations.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences, but control is inconsistent, and errors occur frequently enough to make some sentences awkward. For example, “the percentage of dance classes are held” has subject–verb agreement problems, while “the highest nuber of students who are under 11 they prefer” has an unclear sentence structure. Other examples include “they likes” and “only 300 children wants,” where the verb does not agree with the subject. Articles, prepositions, and punctuation also need attention, as in “in private studios” and the missing spaces after full stops. Practise building accurate comparison sentences with a clear subject and verb before adding extra clauses.
