Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
You identify the chart topic and report one accurate key figure: private studios account for 48%, while college-based studios have the smallest share at 10%. However, the response addresses the task only minimally. It does not describe the age-group chart with its figures, and the claim that ballet among under-11s is highest is not supported by a clear comparison with the other age group. The statement that private studios showed an “increasing trend” is also unsupported because the chart gives proportions, not change over time. The response is 83 words, below the required 150; 10 words copied from the prompt were excluded from that count. Summarise both charts and compare the main figures to provide a complete report.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
There is a basic attempt to organise the report: an opening sentence is followed by an overview beginning “Overall” and a further point introduced by “Firstly.” These markers show some awareness of report structure. However, the ideas do not progress clearly from one chart to the other, and the final sentence breaks off after “community halls & other dance,” leaving the comparison incomplete. The overview combines location and age-group information without clearly separating them, while “on the other hand” does not introduce a clear contrast. Use distinct paragraphs for the overview and the two chart descriptions, and connect each comparison explicitly so the reader can follow the information.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The response uses some relevant chart vocabulary, including “percentage,” “private studios,” “college-based studios,” and “age group,” so the topic is generally recognisable. However, the range is limited and several choices are inaccurate or awkward, which sometimes makes the intended meaning difficult to follow. For example, “showed the increasing trend” suggests change over time, although the chart presents proportions, and “showed a better experience” does not describe a chart figure. There are also spelling errors such as “Autralia,” “elevn,” and “comunity.” Aim for precise reporting language and check spelling; terms such as “accounted for,” “proportion,” and “the largest share” would suit this task.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
You attempt more than isolated labels, using connected sentences and an overview structure, but the range of sentence forms is very limited and frequent errors can distort meaning. In “the location of dance classes in Australia private studios showed the highest percentage,” the relationship between the subject and the figure is unclear. The clause “college-based studios illustrates the less percentage” has a subject–verb agreement problem and an unclear comparative construction. The final sentence is incomplete, so it does not form a complete grammatical statement. Practise building clear sentences with a subject, accurate verb, and figure—for example, “Private studios accounted for 48% of classes”—and use full stops to separate complete ideas.
