Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You cover both charts and report several key figures accurately: private studios are the largest location at 48%, college-based studios the smallest at 10%, and the age-group comparisons for ballet, tap and modern are broadly correct. The contrast between younger students favouring ballet and older students favouring modern is also evident in your details. However, the response has no distinct overview of the main patterns across both charts; the opening “Overall” sentence mainly lists location percentages, while the age-group trends are left for the detail paragraph. Some descriptions are unclear, such as “School halls are the location of dance class take place 24 per cent.” The response is also 2 words below the required 150-word minimum. Add a concise overview and clarify the main comparisons.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a basic, sensible division: the first paragraph introduces the charts and describes locations, and the second compares dance types by age. This gives the reader a general route through the information, and words such as “Overall,” “Meanwhile” and “Moreover” signal relationships between points. However, progression is limited because the first paragraph’s “Overall” section is mostly a sequence of figures rather than a summary, and the second paragraph moves through the three dance styles without a clear organising comparison. Some linking is mechanical or awkward, particularly “but” in the tap comparison, where the figures are close and the contrast is not strongly explained. Use a separate overview and group details around the most important similarities and differences.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant chart vocabulary, including “proportion,” “account,” “attend,” and the names of the locations and dance styles, so the topic is generally clear. There are also attempts to vary expressions, such as “take place” and “join.” However, several choices and collocations are inaccurate or repetitive: “location of dance class … account at,” “students … are join the tap class,” and “take place aged by 11 to 16” do not express the intended meanings naturally. Spelling errors such as “clases,” “peole,” “ina,” and “aproximately” are noticeable. Aim for precise reporting verbs and standard chart phrases, for example “account for,” “attend,” and “students aged 11–16.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt some longer sentences and use comparison structures, including “while” and “but,” as well as a present-tense introduction. However, the range is limited and errors occur frequently enough to make several sentences difficult to follow. For example, “School halls are the location of dance class take place 24 per cent” combines incompatible sentence patterns, while “students of aged under 11 are join” has faulty word order and verb form. Articles and agreement are also inconsistent, as in “the highest proportion of location … account.” Punctuation and spacing need attention, including the full stop after “per cent” and the comma after “Meanwhile.” Practise building clear subject–verb sentences, then add comparisons without disrupting their structure.
