Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the main location pattern accurately: private studios account for the largest share (48%), while college-based studios are lowest (10%). You also compare the age groups in ballet and modern, and note that tap participation is similar. However, the overview says ballet and modern had the highest participation without clarifying that this differs by age group: ballet leads among under-11s, while modern leads among 11–16-year-olds. The tap figures are also misreported: they are about 450 and 420, not both below 450 and almost identical. The response contains 132 words, below the 150-word minimum; the 10 words copied from the prompt are excluded. Add a fuller, accurate overview and report the key comparisons more precisely.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, a paragraph on locations and one on dance types. This makes the two charts easy to distinguish, and linking expressions such as “Overall” and “By contrast” help signal comparisons. However, some transitions are mechanical or do not express the relationship clearly, as in “On the contrary” before the smallest location share. The overview also combines separate findings without explaining the age-group distinction, so the progression of information is not always clear. Improve cohesion by grouping related comparisons and using precise links such as “whereas” or “in contrast.” Clearer sentence boundaries and punctuation would also make the organisation easier to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant chart vocabulary, including “proportion,” “participated,” “private studios” and “college-based studios,” and the reader can generally understand the comparisons. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate: “dance classes help At private studios” does not clearly describe where classes are held, while “helded” is not the correct form. Repetition of “At” and “participated” also makes the report less natural. Choose precise terms for location and student numbers, and check word forms and collocations. For example, describe classes as being “held at” a venue and students as “taking” or “attending” a class. This would make the account clearer and more appropriately formal.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including a comparison with “which” and clauses beginning “while” and “By contrast.” However, control is inconsistent, and several sentence patterns are faulty. For example, “children aged under 11 participated in Ballet At 600, which are doubled than aged 11-16” has problems with agreement and comparison structure; “Aged 11-16 participated in modern dance classes are higher” also lacks a workable clause structure. Capitalisation and punctuation are inconsistent, particularly the repeated capital “At” and missing spaces after commas. Practise accurate comparative forms, such as “twice as many students,” and build each sentence around a clear subject and verb. More reliable sentence construction is needed for the meaning to be consistently clear.
