Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You identify the two chart topics and report several location figures accurately, including private studios at 48%, school halls at 24%, community halls and other venues at 18%, and college-based studios at 10%. However, the overview misstates the age-group pattern: under-11s did not have the lowest figure overall, and the 11–16 group had the highest number for modern dance. The bar-chart account is incomplete and stops mid-sentence, so tap and modern are not properly compared and the second age-group figure after “stood at” is missing. The response also falls six words short of the required minimum. To improve, give a complete overview of the main contrasts and report the key figures for all three dance styles accurately.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, a paragraph on locations, and a transition to the age-group chart. Phrases such as “Overall” and “Turning to the bar chart” help signal the stages of the report. However, progression breaks down in the final paragraph, which ends abruptly after “11-16 years old stood at,” leaving the comparison unfinished. The overview also combines a clear location summary with an unclear statement about age-group results, making the main message harder to follow. Some links are mechanical, such as “This followed by,” and punctuation spacing is inconsistent. Complete the final comparison and organise the bar-chart details by dance style or age group so each point follows clearly from the previous one.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant chart-reporting vocabulary, including “proportion,” “accounted for,” “stood at,” and “compared with,” and the reader can generally understand the intended comparisons. However, the range is limited and some word choices or forms are inaccurate: “varieties” is less suitable than “types,” “cummunity” is misspelled, and “the least figure” does not clearly describe the chart. Expressions such as “number for aged bellow 11 year” and “11-16 years old stood at” are also awkward and imprecise. Use standard terms such as “students,” “the under-11 age group,” and “the number of participants,” and check spelling. More precise vocabulary would make the comparisons easier to interpret.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, for example, “Overall, it is clear that…” and “while people aged 11 to 16 accounted for…”. Most of the intended meaning remains understandable, but errors recur in sentence construction and agreement. “This followed by school halls was 24%” is missing a suitable verb structure, while “ballet showed a largest number” needs an article and a clearer grammatical construction. In “the number for aged bellow 11 year started at 600,” the age phrase and singular/plural forms are not controlled. The final sentence is incomplete, which also prevents the comparison from being expressed grammatically. Practise complete comparative sentences and check articles, verb forms, and plural nouns.
