Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers the main features of both charts, identifying key data points such as the popularity of private studios and the age-related trends in dance styles. However, the analysis is somewhat superficial and contains inaccuracies in data interpretation (e.g., stating 'one-fourth' for college-based studios when the chart shows 10%). The overview is present but lacks clarity, as the summary of trends is slightly confusing and does not fully capture the relationship between the two charts. To improve, ensure data is transcribed accurately and focus on highlighting the most significant comparisons rather than listing individual figures.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The response is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate, such as the awkward transition 'On the plotted bar graph, On the age of under 11'. The logical progression between sentences is occasionally hindered by grammatical errors, making some parts of the report difficult to follow. To reach a higher band, use a wider variety of linking words (e.g., 'in contrast', 'furthermore', 'consequently') and ensure that each paragraph has a clear, unified focus.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks precision and variety. There are several instances of awkward word choices, such as 'contiment' (continent), 'excitment to attained', and 'persuved'. These errors occasionally impede the flow of the text. The range of vocabulary is limited, relying on basic descriptors. To improve, focus on using more precise terminology for describing data trends, such as 'proportion', 'predominant', or 'fluctuate', and ensure correct spelling of key terms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a high frequency of grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues ('Majority... was going', 'one-third portion is excitment'), incorrect preposition usage, and awkward sentence construction. While the meaning is generally understandable, the errors are persistent and affect the overall readability. The range of sentence structures is limited, with many sentences being simple or poorly constructed. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence patterns and proofreading for common errors like verb tense consistency and article usage.
