Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the development of the response. While you have identified some main features, the analysis is incomplete. You have not fully compared the data across all categories, and the report ends abruptly without a concluding summary or a comprehensive overview of all trends. To improve, ensure you cover all data points provided in the charts and provide a clear, analytical summary that highlights the most significant differences and similarities between the age groups and locations. The current response is too brief to adequately address the task requirements.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The response is organised into short paragraphs, but the logical progression is hindered by the lack of sufficient content. The use of cohesive devices is limited and sometimes mechanical, such as the repetitive use of 'while' to connect clauses. Paragraphing is present but the internal structure of the paragraphs is weak, as ideas are presented as a list of statistics rather than a cohesive analysis. To improve, use a wider variety of linking words and phrases (e.g., 'in contrast', 'furthermore', 'consequently') to connect your ideas more fluidly and ensure that each paragraph has a clear thematic focus.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision expected at higher bands. You rely on basic descriptors like 'highest number' and 'lowest number'. There is also some awkward phrasing, such as '11-16 age group were only 400 students'. To achieve a higher score, try to incorporate more varied reporting verbs and nouns related to data analysis, such as 'predominate', 'account for', 'a significant proportion', or 'the majority'. Avoid repeating the same sentence structures and vocabulary throughout the report.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The response contains a mix of simple and some complex structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. For example, 'The pie chart and bar graph illustrates' contains a subject-verb agreement error (should be 'illustrate'). Additionally, there are issues with article usage and prepositional phrases, such as 'under 11 age group' which should be 'in the under-11 age group'. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with several sentence fragments and incorrect full stops used mid-sentence. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and ensure that every sentence is complete and grammatically sound.
