Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response attempts to address the task by describing the charts, but it fails to provide a clear overview or effectively highlight the main features. The information is presented in a fragmented way, often focusing on minor details like colors rather than the data itself. While the student identifies some figures, the lack of a clear summary and the inaccurate reporting of some data points (e.g., describing the college-based studios as 'went down' when the chart shows a percentage) hinder the task achievement. To improve, focus on identifying the most significant trends and making clear comparisons between the categories rather than listing individual data points.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The response is divided into paragraphs, but the logical progression is weak. The transition between the pie chart description and the line graph description is abrupt. Cohesive devices are either missing or used incorrectly, such as 'Now also it can be see' and 'Now come on TAP'. The referencing is often unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the connection between the text and the visual data. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring each paragraph has a clear focus would significantly enhance the coherence of the report.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is very limited and repetitive, relying heavily on basic verbs like 'is', 'shows', and 'hitting'. There are frequent errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'In this charts gives information' and 'The private studios are hit the %'. The student struggles to use precise terminology to describe trends or data, often resorting to informal or inaccurate phrasing. To reach a higher band, the student needs to incorporate a wider range of vocabulary related to data description, such as 'account for', 'represent', 'fluctuate', and 'peak'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that often impede communication. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement ('In this charts gives'), article usage, and sentence structure. The student relies almost exclusively on simple sentences, and attempts at more complex structures are often faulty or confusing. Punctuation is also inconsistent. To improve, the student should focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring correct verb tenses, and practicing the use of articles and prepositions. The frequent errors in basic grammar prevent the response from reaching a higher band.
