Student answer (Band 5.5)

we can easily see the ratio of location of dance classes . first of all I would like to talk about the highest ratio which is 48 percent and it is private studio.most of the young people in australia are attending dance classes in private studio.then the .ratio of school halls is relatively less than the ratio of private studio.then the ratio of community is less than school halls .at the end I would like to talk abt dance as much interested are under 11 to 16 out college based studioes.it is only 10 percent out of 100 where the young people of australia do their dance practice and take classes . i am going to talk about the types of dance and the ages of people about who take which type of class.under 11 people take ballet class.but the ratio of people under 11 to 16 is comparitively less.then under 11 ,secondly tap dance is almost equally ratio of both ages .at the end ,under 11 people are not much interested in modern dance like the people who are under 11 to 16.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the task by identifying the main features of the charts, such as the popularity of private studios and the age-related trends in dance types. However, the analysis is somewhat superficial and lacks a clear overview or summary of the data. The reporting of figures is occasionally imprecise, and the comparison between the two charts is not fully integrated. To improve, you should aim to group the data more logically and provide a clear introductory statement that highlights the most significant trends rather than listing individual data points in a narrative style.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The response lacks paragraphing, which makes it difficult to follow the transition between the location data and the dance type data. Cohesive devices are used in a repetitive and mechanical way, such as the frequent use of 'then' and 'at the end'. The logical progression of ideas is hindered by the lack of clear structure. To achieve a higher band, you should organize your response into distinct paragraphs—one for the overview and one or two for the detailed analysis—and use a wider variety of linking words to connect your ideas more fluidly.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, relying heavily on basic terms like 'ratio', 'people', and 'interested'. There are inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'college based studioes' and 'comparitively less', which reflect a limited range of vocabulary for describing statistical data. The phrasing is often informal and lacks the precision required for an Academic Task 1 report. To improve, focus on learning specific collocations for describing trends, such as 'account for', 'the majority of', and 'a significant proportion'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response contains frequent grammatical errors, including issues with sentence structure, punctuation, and capitalization. Many sentences are fragmented or run-on, such as 'at the end I would like to talk abt dance as much interested are under 11 to 16 out college based studioes.' There is a lack of complex sentence structures, and the control over basic grammar is inconsistent. To improve, focus on writing complete, grammatically correct sentences and practice using a mix of simple and complex structures to convey information more accurately.
