Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response covers the main features of the charts, including the location distribution and the age-related dance preferences. However, the analysis is somewhat descriptive rather than analytical. For instance, the second paragraph lists percentages without effectively synthesizing the data or highlighting the most significant trends. While the key features are identified, the comparison between the two charts could be more integrated. The mention of 'collage based studios' contains a spelling error ('college'), and the description of the age groups is slightly repetitive. To improve, focus on grouping data points more logically to show clear trends rather than listing figures sequentially.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. Cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Secondly', and 'Overall' are used to guide the reader. However, the use of these devices is somewhat mechanical, and some transitions between sentences are abrupt. For example, the second paragraph lacks smooth flow, with sentences feeling like a list of facts rather than a cohesive argument. Referencing is generally clear, but the connection between the location data and the age group data could be strengthened to improve the overall progression of the response.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the student to describe the data clearly. There is some attempt to use specific terminology like 'conducted' and 'age group'. However, there are instances of word-choice errors and spelling mistakes, such as 'collage' instead of 'college' and 'the least classes' which is awkward phrasing. The range of vocabulary is somewhat limited, relying on basic descriptors. To reach a higher band, the student should incorporate more varied synonyms for 'highest' or 'lowest' and use more precise collocations to describe statistical trends.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text. Examples include 'The charts below tells us' (subject-verb agreement), 'which is are at the bottom' (redundant verb), and 'attended the ballet dance is same as' (missing article). These errors do not impede communication, but they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Increasing the variety of complex structures and ensuring subject-verb agreement would significantly improve the grammatical quality of the writing.
