Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response covers the main features of both charts, including the distribution of locations and the number of students per dance type. However, the analysis is somewhat superficial. While you correctly identify that private studios are the most popular and ballet has the highest participation, the comparison between age groups in the bar chart is slightly inaccurate (e.g., stating 900 for ballet by summing 300 and 600, which is correct, but the description of the other dance types lacks precision). To reach a higher band, ensure that all data points are clearly linked to the specific categories and avoid vague phrasing like 'remaining childerns'.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, with an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs. There is a clear progression of ideas. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and repetitive (e.g., 'The pie chart represents', 'The bar graph gives information'). Some transitions between sentences are abrupt, and the referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the final paragraph where the connection between the age groups and the total numbers could be smoother. Improving the variety of linking words would enhance the flow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. You rely on basic terms like 'joined', 'count', and 'type'. There are also several spelling errors, such as 'intrested', 'attanding', 'approxmately', and 'childerns', which detract from the overall quality. To improve, try to incorporate more academic collocations and precise terminology related to data description, such as 'proportion', 'category', 'participation rates', and 'predominant'. The range is sufficient to convey the message, but the frequent spelling mistakes limit the score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response uses a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, such as 'most of students are attended to', 'how many number of young students', and 'Modern dance type with 820 count'. These errors are noticeable and occasionally impede the clarity of the information. While the meaning is generally understood, the lack of control over basic subject-verb agreement and sentence construction prevents a higher score. Focusing on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy would be highly beneficial.
