Student answer (Band 7.0)
The pie chart given portrays the information on the location of dance classes. While the horizontal bar graph illustrates the types of dance(by age group) classes young people in a town in Australia are currently attending.
To begin with, the pie chart denotes four different sectors as private studios, college based studies, school halls and community halls & others. Private studios has the largest proportion of 48% in total locations. Whereas, college based studios has only one-tenth part of the total share. On the other hand, school halls(after-school) have a 24% percent in total. Moreover, community halls & other share a fraction of 18%. Secondly, the bar graph has been classified in two differen age groups; under 11 and 11-16. Firstly, ballet dance has a 600 students for under 11 age group, which is twice as much as 11-16 as it have 300 students. Secondly, tap dance does not have noticable difference in both age groups, as they have 450 under 11 students and 419 students for 11-16 age group. Additionally, for modern dance, there has been a large difference in age groups, as 300 students are under 11. Conversely, 11-16 age groups have 510 students, which is around double as much as the other age group.
Overall, dances like ballet and modern have a drastic difference of number of students for each age groups. In addition, the location of dance classes have a single large percent of private studios which looks like a monopoly among different locations.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have successfully identified the main features of both charts and provided relevant comparisons. You clearly outlined the distribution of locations and the differences in dance class attendance by age group. However, the response could be improved by providing a more cohesive overview that synthesizes the data rather than just listing facts. For instance, noting that private studios are the dominant location and that age preferences vary significantly by dance type would strengthen the summary. The data is generally accurate, though ensure that all figures are transcribed correctly to avoid minor inaccuracies.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The response is logically organized into paragraphs, with a clear introduction, body paragraphs for each chart, and a concluding summary. You use some cohesive devices like 'To begin with', 'On the other hand', and 'Conversely' to link ideas. However, some transitions feel a bit mechanical or repetitive. The paragraphing is appropriate, but the flow between sentences could be smoother. Ensure that referencing is clear; for example, in the second paragraph, the transition between the pie chart and the bar graph could be more seamless to improve the overall progression of the report.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'proportion', 'sectors', and 'monopoly'. There are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'college based studies' (should be 'colleges') and 'has a 600 students' (should be 'has 600 students'). While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning, it lacks the precision and variety required for a higher band. To improve, try to incorporate more sophisticated synonyms and ensure that collocations are natural and grammatically correct.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('Private studios has', 'it have 300 students') and punctuation errors (e.g., 'school halls(after-school)'). Additionally, there are some awkward phrasings like 'does not have noticable difference'. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and refining your use of articles and prepositions will help improve your accuracy.
