Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response covers all parts of the task by reporting on both the location and types of dance classes. However, the presentation is largely a list of figures rather than a summary of main features. While you have identified the highest and lowest values, such as the 48% at private studios, the report lacks a clear overview or a synthesis of the data. To improve, you should group the information more logically and highlight significant trends or contrasts, such as the preference for private studios or the age-related differences in dance styles, rather than simply listing each data point sequentially.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The response is organised into two distinct paragraphs, which is appropriate for a report. However, the progression of ideas is mechanical. The use of 'Firstly', 'Secondly', and 'Thirdly' creates a repetitive structure that lacks flow. Furthermore, the second paragraph is a long, run-on sentence that makes the information difficult to follow. To improve, use a wider variety of cohesive devices such as 'in contrast', 'meanwhile', or 'whereas' to link your ideas more naturally. Ensure that each sentence has a clear purpose and that you avoid stringing too many clauses together without proper punctuation.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but remains quite basic and repetitive. You frequently use the phrase 'classes are being attended' and 'attending', which limits the range of your writing. There is little attempt to use less common vocabulary or synonyms to describe the data. To reach a higher band, try to vary your verbs and nouns—for example, using 'enrolments', 'participation', 'conducted', or 'hosted'. Additionally, ensure that you use precise terminology when describing the data, such as 'the majority of' or 'a significant proportion'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The response relies heavily on simple sentence structures. The second paragraph is particularly problematic as it consists of a single, very long sentence that lacks proper punctuation, making it difficult to read. There are also minor errors, such as '600 students of age under 11' (should be 'aged under 11') and '48% classes' (should be '48% of classes'). To improve, focus on using a mix of simple and complex sentences. Use relative clauses or subordinating conjunctions to combine ideas, and pay closer attention to prepositions and article usage to ensure grammatical accuracy.
