Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses the task by reporting the main features of the charts. However, it fails to include any information regarding the 'types' of dance classes, focusing exclusively on the 'location' data. This is a significant omission. Furthermore, the second paragraph introduces speculative information about reasons for attending dance classes (e.g., 'international day', 'festival') which is not present in the provided charts. This is an inappropriate use of external knowledge. To improve, ensure you only report data provided in the prompt and cover all categories shown in the visuals.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The response is organised into three paragraphs, which is a logical structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is repetitive and mechanical. Phrases like 'the highest amount of peoples' and 'the second highest amount of peoples' are used repeatedly, which makes the flow feel clunky. There is a lack of variety in linking words, and the transition between the introduction and the body paragraphs is abrupt. To reach a higher band, use a wider range of cohesive devices such as 'whereas', 'in contrast', or 'consequently' to connect ideas more fluidly.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is quite limited and repetitive. The phrase 'amount of peoples' is used incorrectly throughout the text; 'number of people' would be the correct collocation. There is also a lack of variety in reporting verbs and descriptive language. The word 'noticed' is used repeatedly to describe the data, which is not the most precise choice for interpreting charts. To improve, incorporate more academic vocabulary related to data trends, such as 'account for', 'constitute', 'predominate', or 'a significant proportion'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include 'the the information', 'In this time', 'many area', and 'different reasions'. The sentence structures are largely simple or repetitive, and there are issues with subject-verb agreement and pluralisation (e.g., 'peoples'). While the meaning is generally clear, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar and spelling hinders the overall quality of the writing. Focusing on proofreading for basic errors and attempting more complex sentence structures would help improve this score.
