Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response covers all parts of the task by summarizing the pie chart and bar graph. You successfully identified the main features, such as private studios being the most popular location and the varying trends in dance styles across age groups. However, the analysis is somewhat descriptive rather than analytical. For instance, you list percentages without always synthesizing the data effectively. To reach a higher band, focus on grouping information more logically and ensuring that comparisons are more explicit. The final paragraph is a bit repetitive, and the sentence fragment at the end of the third paragraph detracts from the overall clarity of the reporting.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The response is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the information. You use some cohesive devices like 'At first', 'However', and 'Overall' to transition between ideas. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly unnatural. For example, 'At first' is not the best choice for introducing a static data set. Additionally, there is a sentence fragment at the end of the third paragraph ('While the tap dance contains the similar') that is left unfinished, which disrupts the flow of the text. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring all sentences are complete would improve the coherence.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'stake', 'accounted for', and 'inverted'. However, there are some issues with word choice and collocation. For example, 'stake of location' is not the most natural way to describe a percentage share of a total. 'Sort of dance classes' could be improved to 'types of dance classes'. While your vocabulary is sufficient to convey the meaning, it lacks the precision and flexibility required for higher bands. Focusing on more academic collocations and avoiding repetitive phrasing will help improve your score in this area.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Examples include 'the half of locations... was accumulated' (incorrect passive voice/article usage), 'School halls contains' (subject-verb agreement error), and 'the count of both age group is quite same' (should be 'the same'). There are also punctuation and phrasing issues, such as the incomplete sentence at the end of the third paragraph. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they occur frequently enough to limit the score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and article usage will significantly improve your accuracy.
